Something had her undivided attention this morning at feeding time. All I saw were squirrels and birds, but I think she saw or heard something I didn't. She didn't even come for her breakfast as soon as she heard the feedbag rustling like she usually does. A few minutes later (while I was walking out in the direction that had her attention) she was in her normal breakfast spot looking at me like I was withholding her food. Lol

That's better. Six bales instead of three. Now I'll only have to get hay every other week. Yay!

Added another section to our barn. Tired of having to go every week to get hay - needed more space. Not a great addition as far as possible longevity, but it's hillbilly construction at it's finest and will serve the purpose for now! Lol
I didn't have time to get more support under the tarp roof today, but eventually the makeshift center support will be gone. 😉

A butterfly joined the donkeys getting a breeze from the fan. I wish I could have caught Cocoa's reaction when it flew toward her face when it decided to leave. 😄

Donkey pregnancies are typically longer than those seen in horses, but that's not the only interesting fact about donkey motherhood! 🍼

Mares even have the ability to 'wait' or delay giving birth - often understood to be linked to their need for security and privacy. Most commonly, foals are born at night, protected from predators by the cover of darkness.

The donks enjoying a little time in their grass patch (about 10'x16') this morning. I let them in there about once a month. The grass needs to be a little high (less sugar content) and access before 10 AM (also to limit sugar levels). Donkeys dietary needs are SO different from horses! Low sugar, low protein.
