This is coming completely from my mama heart.
Because of health issues, I didn’t know if I would ever be able to have a child of my own. I’ve always loved children and wanted them to be a part of my life in some way. I thought about going to college for early childhood education, worked in a daycare, was an in home nanny for families, and even taught Sunday school at a church. Working with children meant so much to me, especially during the time when I wasn’t sure if I would ever get the chance to be a mama myself. Now I’m lucky enough to be a mama to my own little girl and to have a photography business where other families trust me with their babies and children. That is something I will never take lightly.
Was that being said with everything I’ve been seeing about AI and what people can do with an innocent picture I’m no longer comfortable sharing Children’s faces on my public business page going forward. Those pictures will stay private and be delivered directly to their families. This won’t change the pictures I take or what my clients receive I may still share little detail details or pictures where a child’s face isn’t shown.
I’ll also be going back through my older post over the next few days and removing pictures that show children’s faces.
When I first had my daughter, I didn’t want pictures of her shared on social media over the time. I became more comfortable and started sharing her myself. My personal page is private, but all of this has made me rethink what I I share of her there too. Even with a private page, once something is posted online we can never have complete control over where it goes.
It honestly breaks my mama heart that our children have to grow up in a world where this is even something we need to worry about. Technology can be amazing, but it’s scary and absolutely heartbreaking to see the way that some people are choosing to use it.
I do know adults can be affected by this too, and it has made me more cautious about everything I share online but when it comes to children, they depend on us to make choices for them and protect them. The best we can.
For me this is one way I can help protect the children and families who trust me with their memories as a mama and a Photographer that means everything to me.
