Well, it is raining quite nicely right now and I am waiting for a break to get into the house. So, as I enjoy the rare sound of rain, I’ll share a photo. This image was taken during the Strawberry Moon in June. It was the same day I learned of Charles Glatzer’s passing, so Paige Fulton and I went to honor him by reflecting on all he embodied for photography and nature by photographing the rising full moon. This is a composite of the moon at one exposure and focal length and the landscape at another.

Had a fun encounter with a fox yesterday. You don’t see fox very often in Rocky Mountain National Park, and rarely during the day, but there she was, cruising along the tundra in beautiful morning light.

Happy Moose Monday!

This cow put on quite the show last week for one of my tour groups in Rocky Mountain National Park. I loved how the light on her set her apart from that deep dark background of the shaded forest and lake.

Had an unexpected visitor appear while spending time with pikas during a recent private photo tour I was leading in Rocky. Pikas are always a fun stop but just when you think you have enough pika photos, the scene gets quiet and the pikas stop moving. Something is amiss, and there it is, the weasel runs across the rocks darting in and out of the shadows looking for a meal. You try to teach how to photograph this unexpected subject, but you give up and say, “Fast shutter and shoot!” I captured 87 frames and had the one decent sharp photo. I am sharing a few of my other frames to show you what you usually capture with weasels - tails, blurs, missed focus. Very happy to have the one frame. They are a hard species to photograph!

It has been a great birding season in Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park this summer. Such a variety fluttering around. These were from a water fountain that attracts a wide variety of bird species throughout the day. With these hot temps and dry conditions, the access to water is important for the birds and animals. If you would like to learn more about the bird sorry and how to photograph them, reach out for a private tour. Link in bio. 👆🦉📸

I came across this photo in my library of images. It is from last fall on an early morning hike for sunrise. The forecast missed again and there were no clouds in the sky but hiking early gave me a chance to capture blue hour in this amazing location after a fresh snowfall. A few stars are still in the blue darkness above Longs Peak and the fall colors were looking gorgeous. Prints are available on my Creeks and Critters . Com website.

Estes Park may not have manmade fireworks today due to the dry conditions, but Mother Nature and the universe delivered some special fireworks early this morning. What a treat! 🎆✨
