A vulnerable post ahead- 🤍
These last nine months of building my business have been some of the most rewarding, creative, exhausting, and fulfilling months of my life.
When I started this journey, I had no idea what it would become. What began as a dream has turned into something so much bigger than I ever imagined. I’ve met the most incredible families, documented stories I’ll never forget, and poured every ounce of my heart into creating an experience that means something.
Over the last nine months, you’ve become so much more than clients.
You’ve become a community. A family.
And I think that’s exactly why the term maternity leave has been so hard for me to come to terms with.
The truth is… I was scared of what “leave” meant.
I love this job more than I can put into words. It isn’t just photography to me. It’s serving your families during some of the most meaningful moments of your lives. It’s creating memories that will outlive all of us. It’s watching your babies grow, your families expand, and your stories unfold.
I was scared that if I stepped away, even for a little while, this family we’ve created together over the last nine months would disappear. I worried that if I wasn’t constantly answering messages, editing galleries, posting online, or standing behind my camera, everything I’d worked so hard to build would be gone when I came back.
Because of that fear, I stretched myself far too thin.
This last month has been the busiest my business has ever experienced. Between June 1st and today, I’ve photographed over 40 sessions… all while being just days away from welcoming my baby boy into the world.
I kept saying yes.
I kept squeezing sessions onto my calendar.
I kept editing late into the night.
I kept telling myself, “Just one more.”
And before I knew it, I found myself only days away from delivery, still shooting sessions and editing galleries.
I want to take accountability for that.
Because I struggled to step away when I should have, my turnaround times have become longer than the standard I hold myself to. That isn’t anyone else’s responsibility, it’s mine.
But I also hope you know this…
Every gallery matters to me.
Every image I deliver represents someone’s memories, someone’s milestones, someone’s family. I never rush through your moments simply to check another gallery off my list.
Truthfully… I haven’t really stepped away yet. 🤍
I’ll still be delivering your galleries throughout the holiday weekend, posting my favorites, answering messages when I can, and I even have some exciting deals and minis to be posted soon. Sooooo, I guess maternity leave doesn’t completely exist in my vocabulary. 😂
But this is also my reminder, to myself more than anyone, that these final days with my family & of growing my son are numbered.
Very soon, our world is going to change forever.
I’ll only get these first moments with him once.
I’m learning that choosing to be fully present for my own family doesn’t mean I’m letting yours down. It simply means that, for a little while, my greatest role won’t be a business owner.
It’ll be Mom.
To every single person who has booked a session, shared my name with a friend, trusted me with your memories, waited patiently for your gallery, encouraged me, or simply followed along on this journey…
Thank you.
Thank you for giving me grace when I needed it.
Thank you for allowing me to build a business that fills my heart while also preparing to welcome another little soul into our family.
Thank you for believing in me long before I learned how to believe in myself.
This little business has become so much more than I ever dreamed it could be because of all of you.
I’ll be back soon, with a fuller heart, another little sidekick, and even more appreciation than ever, for this beautiful community we’ve built together.
From the bottom of my heart…
Thank you. 🤍
