Wedding Tip Wednesday: First Look Photos or Wait For the Aisle?
There is no right or wrong answer here. This depends completely on you and the flow of your day.
For my own wedding, we had our first look before the ceremony, and I loved it. Our guests didn't have to wait for a long cocktail hour before the reception began because our ceremony went straight into the reception.
There is definitely something special about waiting until you walk down the aisle to see each other for the first time. That being said, I don't think the emotion in my wedding was diminished in the slightest because our first look was before the ceremony. Even though we'd seen each other outside, the moment of the wedding itself happening, seeing each other at each end of the aisle, walking toward my future, that was still FILLED with emotion. I don't think that being the official first look would have changed a thing. It really is all in what you make of it.
Another thing to think about: how intimate do you want it to be? For this wedding, this couple wanted it to be completely private. It was their moment, and it could not have been sweeter (my husband and I also were planning this, but I don't think we really made that clear enough to our family, because, well, EVERYONE was there, but it's fine 😂 we love them). A first look before the wedding can really be just about the two of you, or it can be in the moment of the wedding itself, as you take it all in together, walking down the aisle. Which feeling sounds most important to you?
If you are still torn, brides often do a first look with their father or another significant figure, and I LOVE it when they do this. It gives the best of both worlds, and it's the one thing I wish I had done differently on my own wedding day. I don't think I would've done that in place of my first look with my husband, but I would've done it beforehand.
At the end of the day, you decide what each moment is to you. This is my experience.
So, what are your thoughts? First look before, or save it for the wedding?
