Here’s the 7pm CDT (7/21/26) update from the NHC for Tropical Storm Bertha.

60mph Tropical Storm hugging the Gulf coast but moving almost due west now.

Bertha’s first landfall will occur Wednesday afternoon in southeast Louisiana. How long Bertha is over land will have a big impact on if Bertha is a disorganized rain maker for Texas or maybe something more.

🚨 BERTHA COULD COULD HIT TEXAS 🚨

As of Tuesday afternoon, weather models are shifting a little south and this brings Texas back into play. If Bertha avoids being over land too long or the center redevelops further south over the Gulf, it could strengthen again and become a hurricane before making landfall in Texas.

There is above average uncertainty with the forecast for Tropical Storm Bertha due to the dry air and wind shear in place. Bertha could make landfall in southern Louisiana Wednesday and largely fall apart or it could hold together and restrengthen over the Gulf and impact the Texas coast.

🚨 TROPICAL STORM BERTHA UPDATE 🚨

Tropical Storm Bertha continues to gradually intensity over the northern Gulf as of midday Tuesday, with winds up to 60mph. Bertha is now moving mostly west, and is expected to make landfall in southeast Louisiana tomorrow.

If you look at the point of the red arrow, you can see the center of Bertha in the swirl of clouds near the ocean surface. You’ll also note all of the heave clouds and storms are to the south, leaving the center visible and exposed like this. This is all due to dry air to the north and wind shear, both of which are keeping Bertha from intensifying like we’ve seen in recent years. The Gulf is very warm so this is our saving grace.

🚨 Tropical Storm Bertha has formed 🚨

Bertha has formed in the northern Gulf Monday evening. It’s like to gradually intensify from here as it starts to turn more west towards the mouth of the Mississippi or the southern Louisiana coast.

The overall path and forecasted intensity hasn’t changed much and the impacts for Texas down the road don’t appear to be very bad. There will be wind and rain coming from this on Texas, but a hurricane landfall or significant flooding seems unlikely at this point.

🚨 BREAKING: TROPICAL STORM BERTHA IS HERE 🚨

As of the 7pm CDT update from the National Hurricane Center on Monday 7/20, Tropical Storm Bertha has officially formed!

Bertha has gradually strengthened today over the warm waters of the Gulf, but it’s far from a strong storm. As seen below, the vast majority of the clouds/storms are south of the center of Bertha (the center is the “L”). This means that Bertha’s center is exposed to the north and dry air continues to impact the storm and limit future intensification.

Bertha is forecast to gradually move northwest for now before turning more west and landfilling in southeast Louisiana. After that, the current forecast is that it will weaken and then move back over the Gulf near Houston but never truly strengthen from there.

Stay tuned as things can change.

🚨 Tropical UPDATE: Monday Morning 9am CDT 🚨

Here is a recent look at Tropical Depression Two in the Gulf. It remains disorganized and fighting some drier air coming in from the north, but it’s on track to gradually strengthen and become Tropical Storm Bertha later Monday.

Not much changed overnight with respect to the intensity forecast, but the forecast cone did shift a little more north. This means that Bertha may stay very close to the Gulf coast and not over the warm waters, limiting future intensification chances.

While moisture and a system of some strength is still likely to reach Texas by Friday, a strong hurricane seems less likely. Due to dry air and wind shear, the bulk of the rain will likely be on the southern end of the storm and might spare the Hill Country from further flooding this weekend. Still too soon to be sure though.

🚨 10pm CDT Sunday 7/19/26 UPDATE 🚨

Latest updated track from the National Hurricane Center shows a very slight adjustment SOUTH meaning the potential for less land interaction and maybe a little more time over the Gulf.

Intensity is unchanged and the current forecast for Tropical Depression Two is that it gradually strengthens into Tropical Storm Bertha but nothing more. Could we still get a hurricane? Yes. Does this look like it will be a strong landfall? No.

We’ll know more in the hours and days ahead.
