When you marry your cameraman! Thirty-eight years ago, Paul hired a White House photographer to shoot our wedding, but news broke, and he couldn't make it- of course! I don't recall who ended up shooting this pic, but it has always been one of my favorites. Paul Dougherty, I love you and am grateful for the life we built together and that we are still creating together after all these years❤️❤️❤️

Our Story

Eileen Dougherty is a journalist, writer, co-founder of The Camera 1 Group, and founder of Backstory Media. A former bureau chief of the largest independent media bureau in the United States and co-founder of an Emmy-winning production company, she brings a collective 25 plus years’ experience to Backstory Media.

And she will be the first to tell you that nothing within the previous paragraph defines who she is as a person.

The stories that shaped Eileen’s career coincided with those that defined generations, although her subjects could hardly be deemed name-recognizable. She witnessed American and Soviet WWII vets raise their hands in collective salute at the height of the Cold War. She interviewed former troops on the beaches of Normandy, returning for the first time since the invasion. If there was one thing she understood better than most, it was the interconnections shared between apparent strangers — and those were the stories she pursued.

Eileen believes strongly that ordinary people play a valuable role in extraordinary events in history, and that was the foundation on which she built Backstory Media. That each of us, whether willing to accept it or not, has a story to tell. And only when we choose to share our stories are they passed on.
