I don’t talk about this often, but I moved to New York at 21 with a dream and about $1,000 to my name. šŸ—½

There were no shortcuts and no "overnight" successes. It was a season of extreme hustle - sitting in tiny apartments (that also served as my 'studio'), sending hundreds of outreach emails, and wondering if any replies would hit my inbox. I remember the weight of that uncertainty, working from coffee shops fueled by caffeine and the pressure of trying to make a name for myself in a city that didn't know I existed.

People see the portfolio and the campaigns now, but the foundation was built on those days of "no's" and silence. I’m sharing this because if you’re sitting there today with a small bank account and a big vision, I want you to know I’ve been there. The grit you’re developing right now is actually your greatest asset. It’s what teaches you to be resourceful, resilient, and remarkably focused. It helps you, once you’ve made a name for yourself, stay humble and remember exactly whose shoes you were once standing in.

I often revisit those memories of the hustle; they serve as my compass. They keep me grateful for the 'now' and remind me that every achievement was earned one shoot opportunity at a time.

In the studio recently with the gorgeous 🌟

For this session, I wanted to play with the juxtaposition of soft, bohemian styling and lighting that felt a bit more raw and intentional. We paired Sophia’s incredible hair and whimsical clothing with a flatter, more direct light quality - nothing overly polished, just honest and striking. There is something so captivating about keeping the lighting simple to let the texture and the muse really take center stage.

Is there a favorite from this set? I was torn between the b&w and the color here!

It's so important to step back into the studio and shoot frames you love. While focusing on commercial work is necessary, sometimes you can lose the creative artist in you a little. Even though my commercial work often goes hand in hand with my personal style, it’s the subtle nuances (a slight blur, a dynamic angle, the choice of casting, and the mood of the light) that add more of my personality!

Do you have a favorite frame out of these 3 images? Let me know below!

I’ve been behind the lens for 20 years (hands up if you've been following for that long!), and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that lighting shouldn’t feel like a math equation. šŸ’”

In the beginning, I was completely overwhelmed by the technicalities - the meters, the ratios, and all those rigid rules. Not to mention, every lighting reference I found felt like a relic from the 80s. (Honestly, I couldn’t bear to look at another harsh rim light paired with crimped hair! šŸ™…ā€ā™€ļø)

The real breakthrough happened when I stopped looking at the gear and started looking at the face. I took everything I knew about the quality of natural light and applied it to the studio. That’s when I truly learned how to see the light - how to sculpt cheekbones, highlight glow, define a silhouette, and create atmosphere.

I created my new Beauty Light Guide to help you bridge that same gap. I’m sharing 15 of my favorite setup - from natural light replication and moody Rembrandt lighting to a modern take on paparazzi-style flash!

Tell me: What is the one thing about studio lighting that still feels like a mystery to you? Let’s chat below!šŸ‘‡

My new Beauty Light Guide is officially here! I’ve included some of my personal favorites in this post, including ā€˜Lucid’ (my top pick for that perfect soft-light feel).

Which one are you going to try out first?

Get a behind-the-scenes look into my new Beauty Light Guide. šŸ“øāœØ

This project has been weeks in the making. I personally cast, styled, and lit every look to create a comprehensive resource that showcases my approach to beauty light. I’m so proud of how it turned out!

While some of you may have learned fashion strobe lighting from me before, this guide dives into an entirely new level of lighting knowledge. I’m showcasing how I navigate different skin tones and the nuances of using light to truly sculpt the face and add atmosphere.

As I continue to learn and evolve my own craft, I want to share that growth with you. This is everything I’ve learned about the precision of beauty light, distilled into one masterclass!
