📍New River Gorge National Park, WV
After months of traveling nonstop it was refreshing to come back home to Virginia & see family & friends. Shortly after coming home it was time to prepare for our favorite yearly tradition - a multi day rafting trip with some of our oldest friends & new ones as well! This year we dialed it in doubling our kitchen capacity & adding 3 new rafts to our fleet. It was an amazing 3 days on the New River, with a little more carnage this year (2 rafts flipping along the way). Thankfully all were safe & there was minimal loss of gear. We can't wait to do it again!

📍 Grand Canyon National Park, AZ
As we started to head back East from Sequoia NP, we had one last park to visit on our summer 22' roadtrip- Grand Canyon National Park. Although we have been surrounded by grandure and unique landscapes for some time at this point, we were obviously curious and excited to witness the one of the crown gems of our National Parks. We were roughly 65 miles from the Grand Canyon when our truck started to lose power. After limping it down the highway we ended up staying in Williams, Arizona for about a week while a bunch of desert baboons "worked" on our truck. Firing their only deisel mechanic, ordering multiple wrong parts, and threatening to have us towed at any questioning of their process was just a glimpse into our week in Williams- An old route 66 town hanging on by a thread & some wild west reanactors with a midget. We only had our trusty motorcycle if we wanted to see the Grand Canyon, & 120 miles roundtrip in August in Arizona- our butts hurt just thinking about it. We finally ponied up toward the end of our hiatus in Williams and made our way to the Grand Canyon on the bike. We made it just in time to watch the sunset. We had talked about it forever and worked so hard for our rig, this trip, and our want to see the country together and it all just felt worth it and finished to see the Grand Canyon in the hazey sunset with our sore butts. It was 100% worth it. The bike ride to the canyon, this summer spent all over the country with my best friend in our little house, all the miles, all the memories. We eventually made it out of Williams after a self diagnosis and poor ex*****on on the repair. We headed home feeling greatful to have had this summer with eachother & ready to see friends & family back in Virginia.

📍 Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park, CA
After an amazing almost 2 weeks in Yosemite National Park & surrounding area we said goodbye & headed 4.5hrs West out of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, South past Fresno, & then back East into the Mountains. It was a long & winding road along extreme dropoffs & class 5 rapids deep into Kings Canyon to Sheep Creek Campground - our home for 4 days. We went on a few short hikes as Kings Canyon is known for its amazing multi-day backpacking (which we weren't prepared), so we kept it simple riding the motorcycle up & down the canyon taking in the sights. It was warm & dry here so regular dips in the ice cold creek at the campground was needed, we even went swimming right below Roaring River Falls which was probably #2 coldest water we ever swam in. After an awesome few days we moved South into Sequoia staying at Lodgepole Campground for 4 more days. Sequoia NP is home to the world's largest tree (by volume), General Sherman- a monstrous 275 ft tall, 36 ft wide, 2200 y/o Giant Sequoia. It is truly an amazing experience being able to walk through the groves of these ancient beasts. Continuing on we hiked the 3 mile Congress Trail taking in some of the most spectacular sequioas in the Giant Forest. We rode the motorcycle through fallen tree tunnels, took in Moro Rock - a giant granite dome overlooking the vast wilderness, hiked through Crescent Meadow where we saw black bear & mule deer feeding before making our way to Tharp's Log, a 19th century cabin built into a fallen giant Sequoia. It was another amazing stop at another one of our countries National Parks, we are so grateful to have been able to see these giants while they're still here!

📍 Yosemite National Park, CA
We left Lassen Volcanic NP & headed further Southeast for some relaxation time around Lake Tahoe, we took a break from pictures & videos for the most part and just enjoyed some downtime for a few days. After visiting this past February for a ski trip we knew we had to return in the summer to see the other side of Tahoe & it didn't disappoint; we relaxed around the Lake & Truckee River, revisited some of our favorite restaurants in the area, & mountain biked some local trails before heading south for Yosemite!
To break up the drive we stopped at Buckeye Hotsprings for one of our favorite activities- soaking completely naked in natural hotsprings. The camping was free on National Forest land & at night the hot springs turned into a party with lots of locals camping & taking in the waters.
After spending 2 nights, we continued onward & upward over the Tioga Pass, a formidable 9945 ft pass through the Sierra Nevada mountains & into the backside of Yosemite NP. The going was slow as we had to stop a few times to let the transmission cool down but all went well & began descending into some of the most beautiful terrain we have ever seen. We stayed right in Yosemite Valley for 5 nights at Lower Pines Campground right on the Merced River which served as our basecamp whilst we rode our e-bikes all over the valley taking in all the famous sites such as Half Dome, El Capitan, & Three Brothers. We hiked the Mist Trail to the base of Vernal Falls which was flowing pretty low (as were all the other waterfalls) because of little to no rain in August. We rode the bikes to Mirror Lake to find it also dry as well as Bridalveil, Upper & Lower Yosemite Falls were but a mere trickle. After taking in all the valley had to offer we headed to Hogdon Meadows Campground for 2 nights to explore the lesser visited side of the park, Hetch Hetchy- "a remarkably exact counterpart"-(John Muir) to Yosemite Valley, dammed & flooded to form the reservoir that supplies water to the San Francisco area. Before leaving the park we stopped at Wawona to take in more history & even got to ride a stagecoach with the one & only driver/park ranger- Burrel "Buckshot" Maier.
Austin has been wanting to go to Yosemite for most of his adult life so being able to stay in the park for so long & take time to visit most all of the parks attractions was a dream come true.

📍 Lassen Volcanic National Park, CA
Sorry for the delay- we've been back home in Virginia for a few weeks now & have been so busy with work, family, & friends we haven't caught up on posting- but that changes today!
After leaving the NorCal coast in early August we headed Southeast about 4hrs to Lassen Volcanic National Park.
The Cascade Range of mountains stretches from Canada into Northeastern California, among these mountains is Lassen Peak, a 10,457 ft plug dome volcano - the largest in the world & the southernmost non-extinct volcano in the Cascade Range. Lassen Peak serves as the centerpiece of the National Park but beyond is much more - alpine lakes, conifer forests, geothermal features such as, fumeroles, mud pots, & hot springs! The last major eruption of Lassen Peak was in May of 1915 devastating nearby areas & raining ash as far as 200 miles away. There is still evidence of the eruption with giant pieces of the blasted rock laying scattered all around the park.
We stayed inside the Park at Manzanita Lake Campground for two nights; we arrived late in the afternoon the first night so we stayed close to the campground, hiking around the lake & taking in the great views & awesome weather. Unfortunately with previous & ongoing wildfires in the area much of the park's prominent trails & areas were closed so we made due with what we had and road the motorcycle around the park taking in all the sights from overlooks & pulloffs.
It was a short but sweet stop at another amazing National Park. Next we head to Lake Tahoe for some chill time then continue on our National Park journey!

📍Redwood National Park, CA
After making the drive from Crater Lake NP, OR, we arrived at our first California National Park on the beautiful Northwest Coast, Redwoods National & State Parks. We began by hanging out on Crescent Beach, walking the dogs & taking in the ocean waves before heading to nearby Battery Point Light and then a nearby overlook to watch the sunset. After we went to our home for a few days, Mill Creek Campground, tucked deep in the Redwood Forest in the Del Norte SP region. The next morning we set off to see the Giant Redwoods at Stout Grove, our first of many giant trees along this trip but ones we will never forget. Redwood National Park is home to the tallest trees in the world, the Giant Coastal Redwood, not to be confused with the largest trees in the world, the Giant Sequoia, in Sequoia National Park. These trees can live thousands of years & growing over 350 ft tall! Along the way we found a road down to the river where we found massive brambles of blackberries all along the road. We filled our bellies, pockets, and packs as best we could before riding off to see another giant tree, the "Boy Scout Tree", a massive double Redwood along the Fern Falls Trail- a 5.6 mile out & back trail. The "falls" were a disappointing trickle of a creek, but the trail through the lush coastal forest was amazing- giant ferns, lush plants, & big ole banana slugs everywhere! The next morning we continued south on the motorcycle stopping at the coastal overlooks along the way taking in the amazing scenery. We made our way down to Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail, a 1.5 mile loop through a historic grove of old growth redwoods where we took in the magnitude of these old sentinels. Before heading home we made it to the southern entrance of the park and took a walk on the soft sandy beach to watch the huge breakers crash on the sand. We stayed until closing & made our way back to the campground before heading South out of the park the next morning to our next National Park.

📍Crater Lake National Park, OR
Next on the route was Crater Lake! After leaving Olympic, we stopped in Portland to pick up our new bikes- replacing our previous bikes that were stolen in Glacier. We stayed at Mazama Campground, inside the park. Formed by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Mazama thousands of years ago, this caldera took approx 250 yrs post eruption to fill to its current level with rain and snowmelt, creating what we know today as Crater Lake. There are no rivers running to or stemming from lake, so the level is solely maintained with rainfall, snowmelt, and evaporation. Known for it's color and clarity, we were not disappointed when we approached the first overlook taking in the view of this natural anomaly. With not much time at this park, we mainly rode around the rim on the motorcycle stopping at all of the overlooks along the way. The following day we got suited up and hit the Cleetwood Cove trail down for a lake level view. This 2.2 mile out and back is not your typical 2 mile hike. Straight down to the lake and straight up to get out! All the switchbacks were worth the cold plunge into the cleanest and deepest lake in the United States! A short and sweet stop to see one of our nation's natural treasures. On to the next!

📍Olympic National Park, WA Part 2- The differing landscapes in this park are wild! After exploring the forests and the mountains, we headed to the ocean. We walked along Rialto Beach taking in the rocky Pacific coast down to hole in the wall. This being my (Casey's) first time seeing the Pacific Ocean, this beach walk was pretty special! We moved over to Mora campground where we visited the town of Forks, (Austin knows NOTHING about Twilight so... embarrassing) and headed to La Push Beach (team Jacob 4evr). It was so foggy we had no idea there was a huge rock formation right out ahead of us (last pic). Reflecting on the last year, our travels have taken us to 3 corners of the United States. From the North Maine Woods, to Key West, to the Olympic Penninsula in one year. In our rig. Just us. Pretty wild to think about. We are so blessed and thankful to be able to have see this much of the country, experience so many new places, and have this time to enjoy it with each other.

📍Olympic National Park, WA Pt 1- After dropping Abe off in Seattle, we headed NW onto the Olympic Penninsula to Fairholme Campground inside the park.
In the Sol Duc area of the park we explored the Ancient Groves and Sol Duc Falls. With old growth mossy forests of Western Hemlock and Douglas Fir, we got our first taste of the unique environment. Next was the Hoh Rainforest. With a yearly average of 140 in of precipitation this rainforest is the wettest place in the Continental United States. We hiked the Hall of Mosses Trail & the Spruce Nature Trail- the whole forest dripping in mosses that hydrate the trees, and fallen nurse logs giving birth to nunerous more plants. Next we backtracked to Hurricane Ridge taking in views of Port Angeles, Strait of Juan de Fuca into Canada, & the Olympic Mountains.

📍Mt.Rainier National Park, WA
After leaving North Cascades National park, we headed South and stopped in Seattle for our brother Abe's big day on the town. We rode scooters around the city, snacked our way through the famous Pikes Place market, and grabbed some sushi on the way out. Just outside Seattle, we took in our first view of Mt. Rainier in the distance, commanding attention from 100 miles away. She remained in sight for the remainder of our journey, seeming to get bigger and smaller at the same time as we got closer and perspectives changed. We entered the park early the next morning, not having a ton of time here- we had already decided to take on Mt. Rainier's Skyline trail. This 5.5 mile loop hike takes you through a sanctuary of alpine meadows, snowfields, streams, and waterfalls to the base of Mt.Rainier and the Nisqually Glacier. Offering views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams & Mt. St. Helens in the distance, we were surrounded by beauty the entirety of our time on the trail. With 1700ft of elevation gain, this hike may not be the longest in distance- but it is not for the faint of heart. We highly recommend this hike and enjoying a Rainier brew at the bottom to anyone visiting the park! Following our hike, we spent the rest of our day chasing waterfalls and taking in the roadside views on our way out of the park. Overall, our time here was short and sweet- we are grateful to have spent some time in such a beautiful place.
