The future of Oregon agriculture is on the line. Animal extremists are stacking the cards against Oregon's farmers and ranchers in an effort to put agriculture out of business. Oregon Initiative Petition 28 (IP28), also deceptively named the "PEACE Act," threatens the ranchers and farmers who feed our communities and help sustain the western way of life.

But this isn't just an agricultural issue. If approved, IP28 could affect ranchers, farmers, hunters, anglers, pet owners, veterinarians, 4-H and FFA families, and communities across Oregon. This measure reflects an animal rights agenda that would have major consequences for the state's rural traditions, agriculture, outdoor heritage, and economy.

Oregon IP28 is expected to appear on the November ballot. It is critical that Oregonians understand what's at stake and vote NO to IP28 in November.

But it does not just stop there, this animal extremist agenda will continue. The individuals behind IP28 want to normalize their extremist initiatives into society.

Some of the initiatives they want to normalize in our society according to their chief petitioner, David Michelson, are:

▶No harvesting livestock for food, fiber, pharmaceuticals, and other products.
▶No hunting or fishing.
▶All animals can be treated like our companion animals.
▶Banning veterinary work that includes reproduction and breeding.
▶No management of wildlife populations.
▶No use of pest control.
▶Take these policies into other states and eventually the world, normalizing this extremist agenda.

This "peaceful world where all animals are companions" they have dreamed up from their studio apartment in the city of homelessness and asphalt, Portland, is not sustainable and will never work. It is a direct threat to not only agriculture, but all Oregonians.
