Aurora Returns! A gorgeous display of Northern Lights illuminated northern skies last night on the Northern Plains. The colors were simply spectacular, even despite the immense lofted dust over the last few days.

Oftentimes, the view behind the storm is just as good if not better than in front of them, as was the case here in May 2022 near the Nebraska-Kansas border.

These are "mammatus" clouds, often found in a thunderstorm's "anvil".
