A pictorial ode to the high school seniors.

There were a number of years that I simply turned down doing senior photography. I felt like I thrived best on working with the chemistry of people together, instead of photographing people solo. I thought that there were other photographers out there specializing in those types of photography sessions and I simply referred them out.

And then in the past couple of years a lot of my clients kids that I have been photographing since they were infant babies started becoming high school seniors and it was hard to not want to document them in this stage as well. And as it turns out...I actually not only started saying yes, but truly loving bringing out these individual personalities. Leaning into their particular interests and embracing locations that they resonated with. I haven’t left a senior session yet not having more hope in the future, hearing their ambitions, and feeling particularly fond of these young adults.

This year has been hand’s down my busiest year documenting this segment and I’m so glad I started saying yes. I dare say these have been some of my favorite sessions I’ve photographed this year and I’m excited to share a small snippet here today.

I still have many in my fall calendar ahead, as well as a few more in my editing queue that aren’t featured here.

I feel like I could get pretty sentimental writing this post...and I just might.

Charlotte’s mom is one of my best friends and this whole family means a whole lot to our family. They took care of Mayer a few days a week and nearly every weekend when Mayer was a baby. We vacation together, get robbed in Mexico together (you might remember the story) and spend every 4th of July at our cottage in Northern Michigan. We are close and I love them all dearly.

I first photographed Charlotte and her little sister when they were just a few years old. And now I am photographing her as a senior about to graduate high school.

This session was fun also because we added her boyfriend into the session. We have also grown close with him and his family and it was fun to do a joint senior session with a few couple’s photos mixed in. We planned it during the time we were all up at our cottage this summer and the whole evening was a dream.

Maya and Michael. Married at Orchard Lake CC last month surrounded by the best. Their people love them fiercely and the celebration of these two was incredibly beautiful to witness. My favorite part of their day was hopping on a boat immediately after the ceremony, captained by Maya’s uncle.

I could say a million things about their day but will let the pictures speak my words.
