The provider you choose to walk through pregnancy and birth with can make or break your experience.

Whether you’re planning a hospital birth, birth center birth, or home birth, don’t be afraid to ask questions. You’re not being difficult, you aren’t an inconvenience you are making an informed decision about one of the biggest days of your life.

Ask questions that tell you how they practice, not just what they believe.

If you’re choosing a hospital provider, consider asking:
• What is your induction rate?
• What is your cesarean rate?
• How often do you perform episiotomies?
• What is your approach to delayed cord clamping and immediate skin-to-skin?
• How do you support physiologic birth?
• How do you feel about doulas being present?
• When do you typically recommend interventions, and why?

Read reviews. Talk to other parents. Ask local doulas. Listen for patterns.

If you’re considering a home birth provider, ask:
• What is your transfer rate?
• Can I see your statistics from previous years of practice?
• Under what circumstances do you recommend a transfer?
• How do you handle emergencies?
• What is your relationship like with local hospitals?
• What training and certifications do you hold?
• Note how they treat your partner. Will they be welcomed, respected, and included as part of the birth team?

Then do your own research. Read reviews, verify credentials, and interview them thoroughly.

No provider has perfect outcomes, and no birth is completely predictable. What matters is finding someone who practices evidence-based care, communicates honestly, respects your autonomy, and makes you feel heard.

Birth is too important to choose your provider based on convenience alone.

Thank you Trinity Health MI for hosting a Doula OR training. Doulas who have taken the training will be permitted to go into the hospital with you for a cesarean in Grand Rapids and Muskegon. We are super excited that Trinity has joined Corewell in allowing us to support and serve no matter where you give birth. 🤍

Just the two of you and the life you brought into the world together. 🥹
I’ll never stop being absolutely blown away by birth and mothers and the power it takes to bring these babies earth side.

Is this a good time to tell you that even your doula got absolutely rocked by my last birth? 😅😂

There is so much beauty in the quiet moments of birth.

The whispered encouragements.
The steady hands.
Just you and your person, working toward the same goal of bringing your baby into the world, together.

At last. She’s here safe with you. 🤍

I love that the hospital has a different theme for baby names every month and I love seeing all the sweet babes from the month that I got to meet every time I go. 🫶🏻

How I normally leave a birth: 🥹🤍✨
How I left today:

Because mothers quite literally give their blood, sweat, and tears to bring life into this world. And I can’t think of anything stronger than that.
