A customer ordered a print of my illustration of a B-24 Liberator and her crew. This is a pic of the 14x11 print. The nose art was based off of one of Alberto Vargas’s “Varga Girl” pin-ups for Esquire Magazine pin-up calendar that were real popular with the military in WWII. The original Varga Girl was in a white night shirt, but the artist took some artistic license or some liberties with the original and I suspect the original nose art was completely naked and the black bra was censored, probably by the Bomb Goup Chaplin. I don’t know for sure if that’s the case here, but I do know for fact that the nose art on a 13th Bomb Squadron B-26 Invader during the Korean War was censored by the Chaplin. At any rate, this is a fun illustration of some brave young men, who ironically never flew a night mission. This damaged tree is still hanging in there, lots of leaves coming out. It’s funny how I relate to this tree, damaged, but not broken and growing. The crossroads at Homewood Cemetery on my 1/2 hour break from the Frick Car & Carriage Museum.
