We had intended to meet at Matsulin's closer to Mom's birthday to celebrate but that first blast of NY winter snow prevented that. Our second attempt to celebrate was once again thwarted by snow and ice. We did, however, make it in on February 20 just in time for the Lunar New Year celebration! Happy Year of the Horse!!
Matsulin is a great place to celebrate the Lunar New Year and they have Holiday Special offerings from China Korea and Vietnam.
We ordered two things from the special holiday menu, an app Qui Cai Yu and a Vegetarian entree Gong Xi Fa Cai and some old favorites from the regular menu as well.
And Now.. ONTO THE FOOD!
Apps: Qui Cai Yu Sheng - "Toss and Mix Fish Salad (Gesture Symbolizes a Prosperous New Year)" This is a Massive Raw Salmon Salad filled with multiple ingredients I had to look up - exotic flavors I did not recognize. Absolutely Delicious- comes with a special seasoning packet and a New Years Blessing and is tossed at the table by the host! 👌😀 We recieved our Blessing 3 Years running now! 👍👍
Also shown Mom's fab Duck Salad, Pearl with her Spicey California Rolls and Bob's Beef Satay!!
Entrees: Shelly ordered the Chinese New Year Special Gong Xi Fa Cai - Array of Vegetables, Mushrooms and Black Moss with Bean Curd Sauce (Symbolizes a Prosperous New Year) - Totally Far Out and New to Me! I am not familiar with much in the dish.. particularly the Black Moss. Very Exotic - but delicious and easy to adapt to!
I got the Royal Sushi Platter fit for a King, Mom got her Orange Miso Cod and Bob got the Surf and Turf I believe with Fred Shrimp and BBQ Steak 👌🔥🔥
Some nice dry Saki with Cucumber strips for dessert and we called it a night!
Always Authentic. Always a Pleasure!
