To say my kids have stretched me
beyond every comfort zone I once clung to
is an understatement!!
And honestly... I’m glad they did.
I’m grateful I get to be the mom on the sidelines, cheering as each of them steps into new heights.
But still... Here’s the wrestle:
How do we keep our peace in the stretch?
How do we remain at rest in the tension?
How do we say, whole-heartedly,
“There’s no place I’d rather be” …
and actually mean it?
The truth is,
God meets us right there!
- in every stretch,
- in every surrender,
- in every deep breath a mother takes
as she lets go once again.
It’s in the prayers whispered between the cheers,
Its in the daily surrender, that gratitude grows.
Motherhood is an adventure
far deeper than we ever imagined when we first held them in our arms!
(Somedays, I want to retreat back to those days...but I enjoy these days too much to ever really want to look back.)
As I look ahead, I’ve always admired the moms
surrounded by their grown sons and daughters.
The oil they carry is full of wisdom,
depth, and grace. I love getting to glean all I can from them.
As I walk this road, the more I see it:
It’s these very moments --
the refining fires,
the stretching,
the surrender...
It's in -this- wrestle that the oil I admire is produced.
Our kids aren't the only ones growing as they step out. We grow right along with them.
(Thankfully, that smile is like honey that helps me swallow it all down just a little bit easier.)
