To live with Mother Nature, in peaceful harmony, is my dream.
Completely understanding that this is their planet and we're the aliens upon their fields. Co-exist with honor, and cherish their home to the extent of taking less than needed so that you don't harm the life that existed first.

Leaving nothing behind that is not beneficial and respecting enough to let them be free. Selflessly existing instead of selfishly putting their lives in danger.

Can we, as humans, curb our desire for more so our wildlife doesn't get less?

Don't forget that this Saturday is when I'll pick the winner. All anyone has to do to be entered is follow my page. It's that simple! I didn't want to make anyone jump through hoops to enter so I chose the most simple thing I could think of... follow my page.

I plan on doing the drawing LIVE on Saturday at 2pm. Make sure you log on Saturday to see if you won.

Feel free to share this post to invite your friends to follow and be entered. Who knows.. maybe they'll win.

Ohhhhhhh ..........forgot to mention the prize. It's a box of TEN notecards featuring my art. You'll get to pick which images you want. I have about 40 to choose from. AND I cover the shipping if you live outside of my area. So we're looking at a $50 value.

Good Luck!!

In the last highlights of a sleepy sun, a doe brings her fawn out into the open. He romps and kicks while she grazes in the fresh summer shoots springing forth from the earth. He kicks off a tree trunk and mom glances over to make sure he's ok. Her tail swats away an annoying mosquito and she goes right back to grazing. Feral children are rough and tough.

Just as the sun nods its head below the horizon, the milk bar opened. A hungry little fawn rushes in, excited for the menu, and latches on right away. Dinner must be had in spurts when it's safe. Goodnight, my friends.

Black bears are loners. Other than during mating season, and when they have babies, you will hardly ever see them with other bears. They prefer spending their time alone, foraging and napping up in the trees.
I must be a black bear at heart. I prefer my solitude and just hanging out in the forest. Things are always so peaceful when I'm alone. Even moreso when I leave my hearing aids at home.
The universe reminded me, again, these past few days why I prefer to be alone. It's sad that I feel I can trust wildlife more than I can the human race. At least I know what to expect of them.

Coming from the coast, I always find it comical when I see a great blue heron (GBH) fishing in the rapid flowing streams in the mountains. I see wading birds as coastal birds. Swamps, beaches, marshes.... it just never occurred to me that I might see them up here. I guess they like to vacation too. :) I rounded the corner on a back, dirt road, dust clouding up behind me, to only find myself slamming on brakes.

I saw this fine fellow quietly fishing and I just knew I had to capture it. I had to maneuver along the bank, climb over some boulders while ducking under branches, and remain quiet in the process, to get close enough to get the photograph I imagined.

He never moved. He maintained focus on the stream watching for trout, crawdads, hellbenders, or whatever unlucky aquatic creature came his way. He shook the dampness from his feathers, but his gaze never faltered.

After a couple of shots, I put my camera down and turned to head back to my truck. As I looked back, he was downing a rainbow trout. Looks like he caught his limit for the day.

Lost in thought, I stare at the early spring view. The deer still wear shaggy coats as they search for fresh sprouts coming up through the dull winter brown. Bare trees begin to push out a tip of green in hopes that a frost doesn't come along and snap them off. And me.... well I just count the days until the world is vibrant and colorful again. There's still beauty in a dull world, you just have to look for it.
