Business owners tell me all the time that the reason that they haven’t updated their branding or headshot photos in years is because they think that they’ll feel awkward.

And the truth is that you might feel awkward at first. But that’s why I don’t immediately pick up the camera when we start a shoot.

When we get to the location that we are shooting at I typically will start conversing with my clients catching up with them if I know them well or if they are a repeat client. And if there are a new client, then I asked them all sorts of different questions about themselves and their business. Once I notice that you are feeling more relaxed is when I start the shoot.

And I guide you through every step. From where to stand or where to sit. Giving you reminders to sit up straight or to smile. I do my best to say goofy things every once in a while to get a more genuine smile out of you.

Branding and headshot sessions don’t need to feel awkward. We work together to make sure that you feel comfortable through every step.

Here is what filled my cup in August!

I booked one of the biggest photography projects of my career to date (and it was within my niche of photography)!

This project was unreal, and it was such a huge blessing to work with this business. I’m so excited to share more behind the scenes from this session.

Cole and I hosted my nephew’s birthday at our home on our brand-new deck that we just finished building (I’ll share more pictures of our new deck soon).

This was the first party with Family. We had hosted at our house all year and I can’t wait for our family and friend Apple picking parties this fall. I really love hosting my family so this was really special to us. Plus Cole and I have been working our a**es off on renovating our home this year.

Cole and I celebrated two years of married life together! Happy anniversary, my love! And cheers to many more years filled with lots of home renovations, growing businesses, and building a life that we are proud of.

And then I had the privilege to book another huge project (againnnnnn within my niche of photography), with a really awesome nonprofit!

And at the end of the month, I got to explore more of my favorite place on earth with my best friend ( ).

I’m not even joking when I say that I was screaming with excitement reflecting on how awesome my calendar for August was.

This might sound like a cliché, but I absolutely love my life, my business and my God. This is what I was praying my life would look like five years ago, and God has made all of the struggles and all the growing pains worth it. all cheers to September and the rest of 2026.

What's automated versus what's not at Fortis Media!

The Human Touch has a specific place in my business. But so do automations.

Certain aspects of my business don't require my attention over and over again. Don’t require my attention over and over again! Especially things that I have to write, do, or say repeatedly. Let me ask you, would you want to send the same 7 emails to every new client for every project you ever did? Emails with important information, but ones that you don’t want to have to spend 1-2 hours getting ready to send to your clients?

The Answer is no. You don’t want to do that. No one wants to. I want to work on the creative parts of the project the client is paying me to do. If you still have questions about that information, those responses aren’t automated. They are 100% me.

I only automate the parts that are repetitive. And I believe that every business owner needs to have that same form of automation option for their business too.

Here are 3 questions I suggest you ask before booking a photographer for your next shoot.

1) What type of editing style are you looking for in your final photos? Does the photographer you are interested in booking achieve this over and over again in the photos they show?

2) Do their photos make you feel something? Technical skill is important, but the emotional quality of the images — whether they feel warm or cold, alive or stiff — is what you're going to care about in ten years.

3) Do you feel connected or comfortable with this photographer? When you feel comfortable, you can trust your photographer, which always results in better photos!

Let’s talk about what it looks like when I get home from your session and start the editing process.

After a session, I'll bring anywhere from 200 to 600 images into my editing software. The first thing I do is cull. This means going through every single frame and making intentional decisions about what stays and what goes. This alone can take an hour or so. Then I start the editing process, which takes hours and usually is spread out over multiple days. Then comes the detailed editing pass, including skin, light adjustments, and any cleanup that needs to happen.

For a full gallery, I'm usually looking at 5 to 9 hours of editing time, minimum. Sometimes more. This is why turnaround times are what they are, and why I mean it when I say your gallery gets my full attention.
