Getting to photograph a birth is already such an honor, but getting invited back to photograph another birth for the same family is just so special. This was my second time photographing Anjelina & Kekoa welcoming a baby, and I feel so lucky that they trusted me to be there again.
And let me tell you… Anjelina did NOT waste any time with this one 😂 She had such a quick, unmedicated birth and was seriously so strong. Kekoa was right there by her side the entire time being the best doula dad! (We love a supportive Dad who knows how to hip squeeze! Lol)
This birth was also a good reminder of just how much intuition goes into birth work.
Earlier, Anjelina had told me she would let me know once she got to the hospital and they checked her. Technically, I could have stayed home and waited for that text… but I just had a feeling I needed to go. So I packed up, headed to the hospital and figured I would just hang out in the parking lot until I heard from her.
THANK GOD I DID. 😮💨
By the time she got there and they checked her, she was already almost fully dilated. I headed inside and something like 20–30 minutes later, baby was here. 😂
Every birth is so different and babies definitely don’t care about anyone’s plans or timelines. Birth photography has taught me that sometimes you have to trust your gut, pay attention to the little things, know when to put the camera down or pick it back and know when it’s time to move — even when you’re not totally sure yet.
I’m just really, really grateful I get to do this. And even more grateful when families trust me enough to invite me back into their birth space again. ✨
