One of the biggest reasons we love intimate weddings is because they’re really about the people.

When you have 15, 30, or even 50 of your favorite people in one room, every person there matters. The day feels more personal, the moments feel more intentional, and there’s so much happening that you’ll want to remember.

That’s also why we love photographing intimate weddings. We’re able to focus on the people and all of the little moments that make the day yours.

Part two of the styled shoot with The Story.

They took away everything except candlelight. Hundreds of them covering the entire floor. No florals, no extra design elements competing for attention, just light and white draping and the two of them moving through it.

Mikelo and I watched the Phantom of the Opera right before this shoot and could not stop thinking about it while we worked. We were so inspired by the moody candlelight, the romantic draping and the energy the couple had.

This is what happens when you take a beautiful concept and know when to stop adding to it.

This shoot yesterday was one of those days that reminded us why we love what we do. We got to collaborate with Jane of The Story Event, and her attention to detail was on another level.

She hand formed roses out of fabric for the table linens. Made flowers entirely out of lace. And brought in this soft, textured material for the florals called sợi bα»‘, a staple in high-end weddings across Asia.

Every choice felt intentional. Nothing was there just to fill space, and you could tell how much thought went into building a full world for this set, the chocolate draping, the cream and green tones, the texture everywhere you looked.

We felt so creatively fed shooting this. It’s rare to get a set this thought out to work with, and we’re still thinking about it.

This is part one of two. The second set from this session takes a completely different direction, all white draping, candlelight, and something softer and more romantic. More to come.

We loved having extra time to slow down and play with detail shots at Nhi and Anh’s anniversary session. These are some of our favorite details we’ve ever captured. The real fruit, limes, grapes, and pears, tied in so beautifully with the green on the Cala lily stems, and the cream and green palette came together perfectly. This is what happens when there’s room for creativity.

Cocktail hour is more than just the space between the ceremony and the reception.

It’s a transition. A chance to exhale, catch up with the people you love, grab a drink, and let the feeling of the day settle in.

It’s also when we get to pull you away for a few portraits, without making the entire wedding day feel like a photoshoot. And as those formal moments begin to wind down, we get to shift with you from directing and creating portraits to simply observing.

That’s when the photography starts to feel more documentary. We’re watching for the hugs, the laughter, the conversations, the little moments you didn’t even realize were happening.

Cocktail hour gives everyone a little room to breathe and gives us the space to start telling the story as it naturally unfolds.
