A Statue of Miguel Hidalgo, 1753-1811.
The plaque reads:
{ Miguel Hidalgo Launched the colonial independence struggle against Spain in 1810. Hidalgo served as a parish priest who worked on improving the lives of the indigenous people in Mexico. He formed and encouraged discussion groups that prompted the idea of an uprising by natives and mestizo peasantry against Spanish landowners. These ideas led to the war for independence from Spain. On September 16, 1810 "El Grito", a call for independence from Spain was issued by Hidalgo. Although Hidalgo had no military training, he was named General and Supreme Commander. On July 30, 1811 Hidalgo was executed for treason. During his ex*****on he placed his right hand over his heart and instructed the ex*****on squad to aim for his hand. It would be another 10 years before Mexico would gain its independence from Spain. However, Miguel Hidalgo led the cause and is considered the Father of Mexico's Independence.

Statue of President Ronald Reagan 1911-2004
The plaque reads-
{ Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, returned America to a period of economic prosperity and ended the Cold War with his vision of "peace through strength."

Born on February 6, 1911, Ronald Wilson Reagan moved to California to attend Eureka College, where he studied economics and sociology. After graduation, "the Great Communicator" began his career in broadcasting as a radio sports announcer. His charisma quickly took him to Hollywood, where he appeared in 53 films over two decades.

On October 27, 1964, Reagan earned national accolades and launched his political career with his 'A Time for Choosing' speech. Following the speech, Reagan was drafted to run for governor against two-term incumbent Gov. Pat Brown. Reagan's upset victory in 1966 was followed by a successful reelection in 1970.

In 1976, Reagan nearly unseated incumbent President Gerald ford for the Republican nomination for president. Four years later, a united Republican Party backed Reagan's pledge to restore " the great, confident roar of American progress and growth and optimism. He won a landslide election, gaining 489 electoral votes to 49 for incumbent President Jimmy Carter.

Reagan's extraordinary two-term presidency included remarkable achievements in both domestic policy and foreign affairs. President Reagan stimulated economic growth with low taxes and reduced regulations, while dedicating substantial government resources to a strong military and national defense.

On foreign affairs, Reagan directly challenged the Soviet Union to end its totalitarianism. He famously stood outside the Brandenburg Gate demanding that Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev "tear down this wall!" His partner in international affairs, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Margaret Thatcher said of Reagan, "He won the Cold War, not only without firing a shot, but also by inviting the enemies out of their fortress and turning them into friends." }

Beginning in 1860, and under construction until 1874, the California Capitol Building became the main home for California Legislature. The building's architecture has been inspired by the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C. Since 1869, the rooms of this building have held conversations that lead to the foundation of the State of California.

What an amazing day it was, walking around Sacramento, California. Although I was in the state's Capital, the streets were completely empty. Over the next few days I will be posting pictures from that day.
