Marshall Memorial Fountain - Huntington, WV
I recently added a shift lens to my arsenal and now I can capture large architectural subjects like this within a wider frame without lens distortion.
The memorial fountain was dedicated in 1972 on Marshall University's campus to memorialize the 75 plane crash victims on November 14th, 1970 that included the football team, staff and crew on their way home from a game in North Carolina. Every year since 1972 on that date in November the fountain is turned off until Spring as part of a memorial service held on the anniversary of the crash.
Harry Bertoia, the fountain's sculptor, hoped to “commemorate the living—rather than death—on the waters of life, rising, receding, surging so as to express upward growth, immortality and eternality.”
The fountain is now included on the National Historic Register.
