Thomas Ball’s eight-year-old niece, Annie Chickering, posed for this sculpture in the late 1860s. The figure appears deep in thought, gazing down at the pansies and lilies on her bodice. The title of the piece is likely a pun combining the words “pansy” and pensée, which means “thought.” The sculpture also illustrates a line from act 4 of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, in which Ophelia says to Laertes: “. . . and there is pansies, that’s for thoughts.”

Every corner is filled with luxury and special touches accentuating its neoclassical Beaux Arts architecture.

We visited the Morikami Japanese Gardens last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was quiet and we were able to take our time, with me snapping pictures every five seconds, which can annoy my husband 😂 but it was definitely worth it. An amazing walk with an incredible experience awaiting with every bend of the trail.

This Sunday, prior to the celebration of St. Bernard of Clairvaux yesterday, August 20th, my husband and I ventured to Miami Beach to see a very peculiar church.

A church/monastery that was brought in pieces all the way from Segovia, Spain, to become the oldest building in the Western Hemisphere.

Originally built in Sacramenia Northern Spain, during the years 1133 and 1141, it was taken apart in 1925, and was finally put back together in 1953.

The rebuilding of it was called “the biggest jigsaw puzzle in history.”

What a fascinating place filled with history. ✝️
