I tried using the flashlight on my cellphone rather than an actual flashlight. Even though I never pointed the light directly (or indirectly) toward the lens, the camera picked up the additional light from around the phone...

Interesting for 2 reasons... the daisies are purple, but the light used for painting the still life was a warm incandesc...

Interesting for 2 reasons... the daisies are purple, but the light used for painting the still life was a warm incandescent light... and on my pc the dark background is filled with atmospheric dust - probably from the room, the light, the linen table cloth, even from the lens itself. On my pc, it looks like starlight but here it's all gone (or so it seems). I've heard photographers complain that posting to social media is altering the image. Or maybe it's just my old eyes...
