Community and friendships are so important. I’ve been thinking about that a lot and making more of an effort to push down my social anxiety and meet new people; online and in person.

After joining the photo walk in Appleton with Photo Opp - Appleton and Justin Allen I immediately hit up my friend down in the Chicago area and just made the time.

Life is too short to not make the time to find new friends and spend time with the old ones.

I blew through several rolls down in the Chicago and Willmette area with the Wardflex TLR that was generously gifted to me by one of my new friends O'Laf. I’m honestly having so much fun shooting square and with a waist level viewfinder.

I did a new development process for these and I like how they turned out. 510-Pyro 1+200 semi stand.

ILFORD PHOTO Kentmere 100 medium format.
Scanned without a hood which means light spill. But this is just for IG. We can fix it later.

I spend a lot of time worried that my photos “aren’t ready” or that they won’t resonate with anybody else.

That’s a lot of wasted time. Time I could have spent shooting more photos.

I’m starting to care a lot more about whether or not I feel like I hit my mark instead of someone else’s after I review my shots.

This set hits my mark. Warts and all for the time being.

Trotting around Chicago with the Z8 looking for blue in all the weird spaces.

Color hunts seem silly at first. Having given one an honest go, it’s really just good practice. Having at least a vague idea in mind when you get out there to prime your eye to be more sensitive to specific triggers.

I usually avoid taking photos of fireworks. I had my intrepid with me on the fourth, though.

Set the composition on a whim. Clicked the shutter speed to B and bu****it my way through it. I think it turned out alright.

I experimented with an orange filter on some AHU stock. To be completely honest I had no idea what I had loaded in the camera.

I won’t be using it with color film again, but it spit out a look once I adjusted the colors to be as close as I could get them to somewhat normal.

One thing I do love about where I live is the character of the neighborhoods. There’s a certain level of grit and quirky charm you can find in any midwest town, but Iron Mountain just has… something. A balance? I can’t put it into words. That’s why I take pictures.

I have been working on getting out on foot and just documenting relatively close proximity with 35mm. This set I was focused on “finding glow” and just bearing witness to what feels like a realistic representation of the town.
