You may have noticed, you may not have …. But I haven’t posted a kiddos face in over a week, because I have been thinking heavily on the subject.
Truthfully, I’m nervous to write this post because I know it is an extremely sensitive and controversial topic so everyone please be kind. Everyone is welcome to their opinion on my page, but no mom-shaming is ever okay.
First, I have NEVER shared an image of a child or family if I have been asked not to. I have always respected that choice if a client does not want me posting their images. I also never tag clients or share any personal info.
With that being said, There has been a lot of news lately about children on the internet. Some of it is true, some of it is not. Personally, I know AI has been around a long time, it’s not new- it’s just becoming more popular. I also know that we are all constantly being photographed… security cameras, flock cameras, atm cameras etc. They’re everywhere. If you store images on a cloud or google…. they’re out there too. It is the world we live in, unfortunately. That doesn’t mean I like it or agree with it- I just acknowledge it. I am also the type of person that tries really hard not to let fear dictate my life. The world is SCARY. But we’re all just doing the best we can to stay safe, keep our families safe and still enjoy life and actually LIVE.
So…. This week it has been heavy on my mind whether or not to stop sharing identifiable faces. Of course, I want all of our babies safe, and the “easy” choice is stop posting them. But in this business, it’s not that simple- there’s a lot to think about SO I’m asking to hear from you, my clients ❤️
My entire brand is connection, the smiles, the laugh, the love, that my work shows. They way that I am able to get toddlers to smile and enjoy the session…. Clients need to see that to trust me to do the same for them. And my newborn work😅 newborn photos are entirely focused on their little face. I honestly have no idea how to share those without their face. I can share detail shots only but again, clients need to see my work to trust me with their sweet baby.
So, I hope you guys can understand why this is such a big decision to make as a photographer. I promise I love your babies, I want them safe, I want everyone safe. Please please please do not think I’m saying my business is more important than your kids- it’s not- at all. It’s a complicated position to be in though. This is how I provide for my family.
I want to hear from you. Should I stop sharing faces all together? Would you book without seeing work? Should I just continue to leave it up to the parents? Please help me, I’ve been thinking about it all week 😭
