So you’re telling me they’re activating massive pillars of light on the summit of Mount Washington for the 9/11 memorial during the peak of fall bird migration??? This type of artificial light has been so thoroughly documented to disrupt nocturnal migrating birds that NYC literally has a protocol to shut the memorial lights off when birds begin getting trapped in the beams. I'm wondering whether the impact on migrating birds was even considered at all.

I found this mountain on accident.
Years ago I was wandering down a snowmobile path and found an unmarked trail that disappeared into the forest. I followed it, and suddenly was shocked to find myself on this little summit called Little Haystack, or The Nubble.
Later, I met someone who said they found it the same way. I like thinking about how many people have stumbled upon this place without meaning to. Not many mountains can be climbed on accident!
