Tannic Waters

A saltwater ghost forest on the Jensen Beach barrier island — a clear marker of coastal change.
Tannin-rich water paints the marsh in warm rust, and the pale, skeletal trees show where prolonged salt exposure pushed the ecosystem past its threshold.
Along Florida’s coast, even small increases in sea level allow saltwater to seep into freshwater soils, disrupting root chemistry and stressing mangroves and upland species until only their outlines remain.
From above, it reads like nothing is there — but it’s an active transition zone shaped by salt, chemistry, and time.

A lone fisherman wades at the edge of the tide, settled into the everyday rhythm of the shoreline and the spread of sargassum. From above, the coast becomes patterns of foam and drifting color — greens, browns, and shadows shifting with the water. It’s an unglamorous moment, stitched quietly into the landscape.

These scenes are some of the finer ones in life, a type I have a particular affinity for. There is so much power to be found in being comfortable with your own company. No audience, no clout, no distractions, nothing but you and your surroundings in the present moment.

Brushstrokes of turquoise and gold drift across the surface, and beneath them an eagle ray glides like a living watercolor—quiet, certain, unhurried. Their backs carry constellations, spot patterns as unique as any signature, shifting with the light, shimmering like ink that refuses to sit still.

It's so beautiful to watch these creatures glide through the currents. How lucky we are, to share the planet with such wonders.

A map with no names. A landscape without borders. Just off the shore, the sea arranges itself into patterns—ripples, veils, and ink-like sediments drifting beneath the surface. Glimpsed from above, it becomes something more abstract than literal. A composition of depth, silence, and motion, always shifting, always unfinished.

Catch of the Day: Snook, Sargassm, & a Stingray

When I hit the beach to fly in the morning I never know what I'm going to shoot. I go to the same location over and over and every day is different. The process is more about exploration than intention - being open and prepared for whatever may come to pass (quite literally with the fish) during the flight. The cloud cover, the condition of the water, what is or is not present that day is all up in there air - for me that's what makes it exciting. Be ready, but be patient.

I see my aerial work is a collaboration with Nature herself. She does all the heavy lifting, I'm just there to capture what she's created. When I get a shot like this, there's a lot of luck involved. But how lucky are in general! To live on a planet where this beauty exists, indifferent to our attention.

Catch of the Day: Reef Shark

The ocean has been turning into Lake Atlantic over the last few weeks - such perfect shooting conditions

This little cutie, maybe 5' long, was about 150' off the shore, swimming along minding his own business.

It's so beautiful to see these creatures out in their element. What a great joy it is to share this paradise.

Life becomes art.

Searching for whales in the Atlantic. This was the setup to see the screen. Longboards double wonderfully as landing pads.

So here's something pretty cool! Look at this display at the .

It's really beautiful how they embedded the works unless foliage. Really playing on the theme of Women Artists and the environment.

I'm so excited to share the stage tomorrow with some really talented creators and connect through this magic medium of Art. I'll be patching it virtually, but it starts at 2:30 CST.

It's all so crazy when I take a moment and think back to where I was a few years ago. I had sidelined myself so hard and thought I had missed my chance. I had given up on making art for almost 8 years. I was creative sure, but didn't call myself an artist. It was just something I could do whenever asked.

One day I realized if I died most people wouldn't even know about the things I think, or the stuff I create. I stopped posting, stopped sharing, the things I made only lived on my hard drive. I knew I had some magic, but I thought I had squandered it, or didn't matter, or a million negative things. I was pretty much over the hill at 27, and had taken myself away from the world.

Luckily I was able to crawl myself out of that headspace and try it despite my uncertainty. I stopped spending time and mental energy with people who brought me down and found ways to start to give it back to myself. I began spending time where I was appreciated - Hell it was more than that, I felt seen and supported.

To see how far I've come on my art journey in just a few short years I am so damn proud of myself. This is just the beginning, and I know there's a long way to go from here but everyday I'm on this path, connecting with others through my work or through a shared love of creation I feel in a way that I've made it. If we've connected through art and you've made me smile, or we've had a great conversation just know that you're part of it.

Here's some more sharing, here's to more confidence, and here's to never again giving up on myself. 🥂

I want to say Thank you from the bottom of my heart to .art and for all of the opportunities and support of my creative journey, both here and online! 💕
