Here is my most recent astrophotography project, The Veil Nebula. The Veil is a large supernova remnant located in the constellation Cygnus. It is made up of dust, ionized oxygen (blue/green), and ionized hydrogen (red). This image is 12 hours worth of 5 minute exposures through a special filter that blocks almost all light except for two narrow bands of the visible spectrum of light which are aligned to the oxygen and hydrogen emission wavelengths. These exposures were stacked and processed to bring out the color and details. Enjoy! 😎

I've been wanting to try processing some data from JWST and finally decided to try it since I haven't gotten any new data of my own recently. I figured a good first target would be the Ring Nebula. This is just a really quick process and I have no idea what I'm doing but it still turned out awesome! I will definitely be trying more of this in the future! Enjoy! 😎

This weekend is the Cherry Springs Star Party, but the weather didn't cooperate, so I stayed home. I decided to process some data from the last star party I was at since I couldn't get anything new. This image is of our own galaxy, The Milky Way. Enjoy! 😎

Camera: Nikon D750

Here is my latest project, comet 12P/Pons-Brooks. This image was only 33 minutes worth of data since there is very little time to image from the time the sunsets until the comet fades into the sky glow and sets below the horizon. This was a fun project since everything had to be ready to go to image as soon as it was dark enough with no time to waste. Enjoy! 😎

Here is my latest image, captured over three nights last weekend. This image is on M81 - Bodes Galaxy and M82 - Cigar Galaxy. There are also numerous other small galaxies scattered throughout the image. Also in the image is a significant amount of Integrated Flux Nubula (IFN) which is dust from our own galaxy, The Milky Way. This image marks a milestone in my astrophotography journey since it's composed of 23+hrs of data. I have never done more than 8 or so hours in the past. Enjoy! 😎

Here is my latest project, which is a two panel mosaic of the Heart and Soul nebulae. The Heart Nebula, also known as IC 1805, is an emission nebula located 7,500 lightyears away in the Cassiopeia constellation. The Soul Nebula is sometimes also known as the Embryo Nebula or IC 1848, which is a designation used for the open star cluster embedded within the nebula. The Heart and Soul Nebulae complex spans an area about 300 light years across and is a vast star-forming region illuminated by the light of the young stars surrounded by star-forming clouds of dust and gas. Enjoy! 😎

Panel 2: 36x210"

This is the second batch of data that I captured about a month ago when we had a stretch of clear skies. It is a two panel mosaic of the Horsehead and Orion nebulas. I captured date with both Optolong UV/IR, and L-eXtreme filters. This was a very challenging image to process for me, since I had to do two mosaics, and then extract the red channel from the L-eXtreme mosaic and add it to the OSC mosaic. Overall, I am extremely happy with how it turned out. Enjoy! 😎

With the weather being so uncooperative lately, I had to resort to reprocessing some old data. This is M42 - The Orion Nebula from back in 2021. If I recall correctly, this was just a short amount of data that I captured while waiting for another target to become visible. I don't remember specifics, though. Enjoy! 😎

Well, I finally got around to finishing my image from the Black Forest Star Party. This one is LDN1235 - The Shark Nebula, which is a dark/reflection nebula located in the constellation Cepheus. Dark nebula are composed of dense dust that block the light from stars behind them, giving it a dark look. This is the first image taken with my new imaging rig. Enjoy! 😎

Badly designed and poorly implemented lights reduce visibility and safety, as demonstrated in this graphic from DarkSky International. The glare from bright lights creates shadows, meaning we see less with our eyes, not more. If you have lights at home or work, you can point them downwards to minimise glare and maximise their effectiveness. It's better for our environment, too!

New scope came in yesterday! 😍 It is an Askar FRA300 Pro which has a 300mm focal length. What this means is that I will be able to capture a much wider field of view since my other scope is 750mm focal length. I also got the Svbony SV165 mini guidescope for it so that it is a nice compact rig.
