Kewanee Cinco De Mayo Festival
Cinco De Mayo is upon us. This weekend, we'll be celebrating our Hispanic heritage. For those who might not know, May 5th commemorates the Mexican army's incredible underdog victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Today, it has grown into a vibrant celebration of our culture and roots. I hope to see the community come together to celebrate with us, eat some delicious food, and enjoy a great day. Check out this look back at last year’s festival, and keep an eye to the sky this Saturday as I'll be out there capturing the fun from above! Don't forget to stop by my booth and meet me.

A bright, sunny day at the Peoria Zoo provided a great backdrop to test out some ground-level storytelling. Dealing with harsh midday sun can be a challenge, but it also offers a chance to play with silhouettes and high-contrast lighting to tell a more compelling story. From the stature of a lion to the quiet repose of a kit fox, I’ve put together a new gallery that shows off the world from a different perspective.

From mackerel skies to the main event! 🌩️

I caught these timelapses earlier as the weather really started to shift over Kewanee. It’s one thing to spot the warning signs in high-altitude ripples, but watching the atmosphere churn like this, complete with those flashes of lightning, is always a powerful reminder of how fast things can change. Full disclosure, the flash of lightning was edited in :(

The transition from those calm ripples to this heavy, rolling system was impressive to see in motion. Stay safe and dry out there tonight, Henry County! Also, enjoy the panorama!

Spotted some beautiful cirrocumulus undulatus, better known as a "mackerel sky" over Kewanee today. While these rippled clouds are stunning to look at, they’re usually a sign that the atmosphere is shifting. With rain and significantly dangerous storms in the forecast for later this evening, enjoy the view while it lasts!

You usually see the world from my drone's perspective, so here's a rare shot of the guy behind the controller. I've revamped the website portfolio and just uploaded a brand new gallery from that crazy storm we had last week, plus some highlights from a recent day trip. Head over to the link to check them out, and shoot me a message if you have an upcoming project you want captured.

The severe weather has finally moved out of Kewanee, and the sky left behind an absolute masterpiece.

These incredible formations are called mammatus clouds. They typically appear right after a massive storm system passes, formed by sinking pockets of cold, moisture-heavy air hanging from the underside of the storm's anvil. I sent the gear back up to catch the evening sunlight hitting these pouches over town, and the contrast is just unreal. I hope everyone stayed safe during the rough weather earlier today and that you get a chance to step outside and enjoy this view.

That massive shelf cloud is officially moving into Kewanee right now. The clear skies we had earlier just fueled the atmosphere, and this main front is bringing the severe weather we were warned about. We are still under an active Tornado Watch. Expect sudden, damaging winds, large hail, and a real chance of rapid rotation as this heavy core hits town. Get inside, make sure your safe space is ready, and keep your weather alerts loud. Stay safe tonight.
