May we pray for those who lost their lives today 25 years ago. And for those who developed PTSD, cancer, heart disease, and those who lost a loved one, those whose families were ripped apart because of the events of that day.
And may we hold the first responders and unseen heroes who showed to help their fellow man, those who gave their lives.
It was perhaps our finest hour: the ultimate in humanity. Strangers running in to help others, with no regard to their politics, their religion. Just concern to help those in peril without thinking about their own needs.

We’re getting a snow day here in East Tennessee and honestly it’s kind of nice. It’s very serene and peaceful.

A last minute peaceful protest against the reckless attacks and killings by ICE agents against Minneapolis communities came together Sunday evening at Knoxville’s Market Square.

Protesters also mourned the deaths of Renée Good and Alex Pretti and others who have died from ICE encounters or while being detained by them.

Two of my favorites from this go around:
My dad, Jerry Hislip and his understudy, Mary Jane Mitchell, my big sister.

Dad was beloved by all, and the secret of his charm is that he was gifted with a talent for making a connection with anyone he met. People trusted him so mich that they divulged their deepest secrets to him. He accepted people where they were at.

Jerry Hislip was a great man and an exemplary dad.
Happy Birthday today.

I met , a Havana based poet, and asked him if I could snap a couple of photos. He happily said yes, so I photographed him outdoors.

My experience of photographing complete strangers in Cuba was very positive. They were the most friendly people I have ever encountered as a tourist in a foreign country. I literally walked up to complete strangers and asked them, in Spanish, if I could photograph them.

This young woman and her cloven-hoofed friend’s body language seems to say that it them against the world. This was part of a recent visit to Viñales, Cuba. I was part of a crew of photographers led by the Complete Cuba touring company, enthusiastic experts of all things Cuban.
