A little off trail

We hiked the Laurel Highlands yesterday to check out a few waterfalls. We hoped to see the mountain laurel in bloom but it’s still a few days away. Here’s a shot of my favorite model climbing back up from Cucumber Falls.

Union Pacific is commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary with a historic, first-ever coast-to-coast steam tour featuring the legendary Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive. I used Google Maps to find a bridge crossing in Painesville Ohio. I drove there early Tuesday morning with hopes of getting a view of the train crossing the Grand River. When I got there crowds were already starting to gather and I had about 8 hours to kill. I picked out a spot and went for a hike in a local park to pass the time. Made some new friends that were also waiting for the train. I went back to my spot to beat the crowds and get set up with a few hours to spare. It all worked out in the end I’m really happy with the results.

I chased the Union Pacific 4014 Big Boy from Cleveland to Erie in the last couple days. 1.2 million pounds of American muscle.

Hector Falls is a unique looking waterfall in the Allegheny National Forest. The water comes out over a large rock formation that protrudes from a cliff face.
