Day in da life at Duke's Beach House

Been a long time since I got to shoot restaurants. Got the opportunity to take some photos and felt back in my natural habitat. It’s been a great ride being a part of this restaurant. Here’s some shots of how I see it all

And I tell you what, it really helps candid photos when everyone already knows you!

Head in the Clouds:

Years have gone by since I went on a pure hiking trip. My senses tingle at the thought. Escape was not always the idea, but adventure. To see how beautiful things were, not just what people told you about.

There’s something special about hiking. Slivers of sweat invade every corner of yourself while your legs start to burn. Some combination of pain and glory happen all at the same time as your eyes keep finding new wonders. Its that moment we live for when you turn the corner of an unknown canyon or forest, when you see the first glimpse of an incredible horizon you didn’t know existed: magic…you feel so comforted.

As always, I didn’t intend on writing this with tons of emotion. Ive been busy, but after a few moments of fantasy and history, a layered experience of my past travels unwound. I felt emotional. I had that shiver down my spine when your experience is stronger than you anticipated; collisions of the conscious and subconscious. I felt happy and joyful with that pang of sadness. There’s probably a Japanese word for it. To have completed something beautiful and the moment it’s over we feel sad. Even all these years later.

How poetic a feeling, I look forward to the sadness again because I know I must of done something marvelous.

I know some people don’t come here for a story, but I don’t really care. I’m here having a moment, and I decided to share because of how it feels to be human, right then, right now, on this little dot in the universe.

This is my art. Love me or hate me.
Get out there and explore your soul.

Molto Italiano:

Tonight’s reminisce leads me to Italy. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite places I forever will return to. Food and culture are layered in the very bricks. People walk and talk the very streets their ancestors did. History was written 2000 years before, yet still rewritten everyday in every corner in every way. Somehow, even you and me are a part of it all now. We are modern, and we are ancient history. Isn’t that a beautiful? That’s my kinda idea of romanticism.

World Cup Fever 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 :

England made it to the final four and I’ve kinda been cheering for them. Not sure why, but I do love some English folk. Of course, this is a great time to roll out some photos from the archive from a lovely country.

What a magical place, from the history and architecture to the way the streets feel. Stories are in the very bricks of every corner and countryside. I love that feeling. Like being in a library full of unknown stories and adventure. I mean, Harry Potter lived his imaginary life here. Isn’t that fantastical enough? Short and sweet, just for you Dev.

See you in a few months UK!

Taiwanese Story:

I don’t really know how to explain Taiwan to you. Only half the story was my own to share.

I had a beautiful experience with tons of ups and downs. It was so similar to what I knew in travel yet felt so tranquil. Something in the atmosphere that can only be understood in island culture. This feeling of “exhale” exists. It coats everything in a place that should be hustle and bustle; permeates, resonates. A good pace to live life. Taking your time is appreciated.

There’s a spot in my heart for Taiwan. It was short, but special. Something always seems to resonate when I think of it, but not every story gets to be shared. Some you keep all for your own, and that truly makes something special.

America 🇺🇸:

You know, with 325 million people in this country you can easily not agree with everything and everybody. It’s inevitable. But critics would make you think it’s all bad. Everywhere I go, there’s still awesome people, good food, and tons to learn about what America is.

The World Cup gave us a new perspective of our own country. It reminds us, reminds the world that we have done some great things and built a pretty cool place. We are not the headlines, we are not our politics, we are not our things and money. We are just the people from a place who want to be happy in our own way, in our own style. Not always right, but hoping we can always be better. That’s pretty American to me.

From sea to shining sea,
Cheers America.

Dreaming:

My favorite travel on earth. Had some visions of some future trips. Everything reminded me of this place. My first moments in Swiss mountains were hard to believe. Reliving the feeling in my head feels unbelievable. I remember the pure joy of how real it felt, yet still unreal. Ready for some more. Head in the clouds. I appreciate it all.

Pura Vida:

I love a simple life. Sun, surf, good food, good people, sunshine, sand, beach, air conditioned room. When you live on beaches, you realize life is pretty easy. You don’t need much because all of life can be found in a few mile radius. Happiness, food, love, fun, appreciation, spirit, conscientiousness, friendship, peace, everything is there. I love that you don’t feel the need to go anywhere else to find exactly what your looking for. And did I mention waves?

Costa Rica was beautiful, there’s not much I would change. I’ll remember that stretch of beach forever.

The Other Grand Canyon:

My second solo trip led me to the desert. Naturally when original plans don’t work out, you pivot to something you never knew you wanted to do. The Mighty Five national parks in southern Utah are unfathomably beautiful and mind melting, but I never even knew what to expect. I rented a van, overscheduled my hiking and driving capacity, and set out for sights unseen. What a marvelous world awaited. And they say you’ve gotta see the Grand Canyon? But what about Canyonlands? I think I never felt so small than seeing how expansive these holes were. And to believe I was thousands of feet up on the plateau? Above another plateau? Mind melting 🫠.

When people talk of the desert, go and find for yourself. Sit, appreciate, and wonder.

Yesteryear:

Nashville 2022 was such a fun time. I had just finished my first international European trip of 4 months and needed to catch a wedding back home before returning to Hawaii. The chance to run around as a traveler in my hometown granted time to reconnect with friends while squeezing in some new experience. That kind of stuff you usually skip when living somewhere was all open to me. Such a beautiful way to experience something you’ve done forever.

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”-Marcel Proust

I surely love the place still, but I, without a doubt, still love all you people there.
