Personal post warning…
You left us on a sunny Sunday morning ten years ago now. No warning, no chance to say goodbye, no last opportunity to say I love you. One minute you were there and the next you were just gone. A memory of a life well lived and a deep void in our story where a main character once sat. You taught us to live for today while you were here and we vowed to heed that advice in your absence. Some of us did, for a time. And some of us get caught up in the circumstance of life and find ourselves walking through the moments of life with our gaze set behind us or looking intently to the future for a time when life will fulfill us as we think it should. Ten years is a long time to forget the lessons your life taught us yet somehow the past decade has gone by as if September 4th 2016 was just yesterday. We can’t go back and reset the days lost or the decisions made and we can’t bank on the future as you’ve taught us that the future isn’t guaranteed. All we can do is stand present in this moment and decide what we want it to mean. God has had that message on repeat for me lately.
Marcus Aurelius wrote, “You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think”. And to us that knew you that means to Live Like Ace. I miss you brother. Till we ride again.
