Always a pleasure to work with Lauren Kim . We met up earlier in the summer to capture this fitness-inspired session on both film and digital. This set is shot on PsychBluesFilm #5. I love the look of the colorful pre-exposed borders and will absolutely be using it again. It would be perfect for some 90s inspired senior photos or late-night wedding reception candids. It’s Gnocchi! At just 11 weeks old, he’s four pounds of concentrated adorableness. Despite his size, he was very brave when the strange man came to his home, assembled big flashing lights, and then stuck a camera in his face. Treats helped.

Despite a crazy storm rolling through just before our scheduled time, the weather cleared out and we were able do this session at Frying Pan Park. The grown-up kids set up family photos as a gift for their mom before they headed off to some adulting in various parts of the world. Very thoughtful of them!

I told them to pose like they were in a band. Mission accomplished.

Sometimes you get lucky and there’s a big ol’ rainbow.

Here’s how to allocate your time at a family photo session: 95% goofing around and 5% trying to get a nice photo for Grandma. During our time together, the twins here had a jumping contest, danced, raced (multiple times), put on a show, and ran around on a playground. I was sweating profusely trying to chase after them, but they were having fun, so mission accomplished.

Happy 4th of July! Here are some highlights from Dixie’s session on the National Mall. Her parents did their engagement photos on the Mall and wanted some portraits of Dixie in the same location to include in their upcoming wedding. We had tons of fun getting these shots, and Dixie loved all the treats and compliments from passersby.

The Jefferson Memorial makes for a pretty epic engagement photoshoot backdrop. B&C wanted their session to reflect their time in DC, so what better way than to include an iconic DC landmark? These two (and the memorial itself) were so much fun to work with—it made waking up early on a Saturday worth the effort. I wish them the best on their new adventures together!

I Am The Avalanche | The National | Richmond, VA | 6/14/2026

I AM THE AVALANCHE put on a rager of a set at The National opening for Thrice. Tons of energy on stage, tight musicianship, and even a shout out to Uncrustables. I wasn’t familiar with them before, but I sure am now. I made my way through their discography while I was editing photos from the show, and they’ve gained at least one new fan. Well, two probably—in between sets I chatted with one of the security guys, who was also impressed by what he heard on stage. Check out their new one “The Horror Show” if you’re into music that makes you want to start a bar fight.

Thrice | The National | Richmond, VA | 6/14/2026

Here are all the presentable black & white film photos from Sunday’s THRICE show. B&W film is the coolest, so I try to shoot a roll of it at every show I photograph (and, really, whenever else I can). Stage lights render with so much texture on film, and the grain of low-light film brings in its own character to the image. It also helps when the band that you photograph is Thrice. Because they’re really really good. Awesome show. Awesome band.

Way back in September, and I met up to mess with some experimental film, and we got some fun and colorful results. We also took some normal photos, but I never posted them because I’m terrible at social media. So here they are! The first four are 35mm film and last four are digital.
