Seeing my community come together to protest ICE felt necessary, not symbolic, because what is happening right now under this regime hurts real people in real time.

People showed up because ICE raids tear families apart.
Because people get detained without clear information or access to legal help.
Because workplaces, homes, and neighborhoods turn into sites of fear.
Because parents disappear while kids wait at school.
Because detention conditions stay opaque and dehumanizing.

Standing there, I felt how different it is to name these harms out loud with other people instead of absorbing them alone through a screen. The conversations stayed grounded. People spoke about neighbors who stopped leaving their homes, small businesses losing workers overnight, and families making contingency plans no one should have to make.
