Built over 1,000 years ago, this shrine sits on the side of the road to Miyama, in the absolute middle of nowhere (bigtime countryside), basically, and if you didn't know about it, you would drive right by.

Spiritually filled!!

And these kind of places dot Japan? It's amazing!

Many thanks to my wife's friend, Noriko, (and now mine, of course. Known her for years now), for taking us to the greatest places! She did a lot of driving!! 🙏🏻

Third time's a charm, I guess. I saw the Neanderthal Comet. (Through my live view finder only.)

This is what I got.

The 1st was shot at 150mm with the 2nd shot at 600. (NO cropping needed. It would look awful if I did! 🤣)

I do NOT have a fast enough lens for this kind of work, so it is what it is!

If we didn't KNOW what we were looking at, well, we wouldn't know what we were looking at! 🤣

Mars, was of course, shining brilliantly and the comet was sitting at about 10 o'clock from IT.

Temperature wasn't SO bad. I dressed accordingly, so, no biggie, really.

And all this, at 7pm! I'll take it!

Caught THIS unique formation with a 15 second exposure, trying for lightning.

You really couldn't see the shape so much with the naked eye.

Only caught one bolt (right before I called it a night), well actually two.

They're both coming out of the same cloud, but go sideways, in opposite directions! (Different photo)

You just gotta love some sweet anticrepuscular rays in the Mojave!!

I just went out to shoot pink cloud potential because we had sweet clouds all day!

Come sunset? They all but disappeared!! (As you can see in these photos!!) I HAD to get my favorite...the Joshua Tree...in one of the shots.

BUT, I'll take THIS phenomenon. It happens on occasion, but not very often.

In celebration of our upcoming eclipse...

I froze my t**h off!!

There were about 15-20 cars in the dirt parking lot at the end of the 13 Mile Loop, facing east, to watch the event.

I was the ONLY one OUTSIDE of the vehicle trying to capture it! It was freezing, windy and just plain COLD.

I had to put the tripod as low as I could, sit with my back against my back bumper (I PULLED in because I'M getting out) to try to block the wind (NOT 100% successful), and put the TRIPOD between my bent knees to fight off what wind my CAR wouldn't block!

The windchill was nasty!!

I was NOT giving up!!! (Gotta wonder what all those other folks were thinking! 🤣)

This is the best I could do. (Super cropped)

We have another coming on the 15th!!
