Re-introduction because I’ve met a lot of new people and followed a lot of new people, and went through a cocoon period the last few months where I was figuring out a lot of things!
I’m Dove 👋. I am a photographer who mainly photographs music, but has photographed almost everything as a form of art since I can remember. A huge thing holding me back from my business and my potential as an artist is not posting who I am on social media and by hiding behind a brick wall, seemingly. Or at least it feels like it.
I even started the name of this account, Sylas, because it sounds gender ambiguous and I have experienced issues as a woman in music with people not wanting to take me on tours or work with me due to being a woman in an industry that has, historically, a large number of men.
Fck all that. I am a woman photographer who works in the hardcore/emo/metal/metalcore (almost all genres that are rock adjacent because I don’t listen to one thing) scene, as well as in electronic music. As well as in ANYTHING, because truly I just love taking photos and capturing moments in time since we don’t get enough of it.
So, if you don’t like a huge part of the world’s population, women, or cannot grasp that we are also people, or think we are incapable of doing the same jobs as you, no, I don’t want to work with you. Yo m***a. This also 100% goes for if you don’t think disabled people, people with a different religion than you, people of a different race than you, people that are any other gender than you, or that are LGBTQ+ more or ANYONE else doesn’t deserve to take up the same amount of space as you. The reason I care is not only because I’m a normal human with empathy that can see a perspective other than my own, but because I am a part of most of these groups. Suck it.
For all the normal people, I know you’re the ones most likely reading this anyways, so, thank you!
I also run my business and shoot all shows by myself with two chronic, life limiting conditions. (Luckily, I’ve been working with a few other people in 2026, because I have more of a workload and need to be able to deliver on time). This s*t is truly not for the weak! (More in comments)
