An immature Peregrine Falcon brought sudden chaos to the mudflats today.

One moment, a group of shorebirds was feeding peacefully; the next, they erupted into the air with frantic alarm calls.

I quickly bumped my shutter speed to 1/4000s and set my autofocus to zone mode. Seconds later, the young raptor came sweeping in low and fast.

A half-dozen Least Sandpipers narrowly escaped the first strike, but it certainly won’t be the last attack of the day.

The newly discovered Western Warbling Vireo🤔. Just kidding😁.

Last year, the American Ornithological Society (AOS) looked at genetic codes, physical measurements, song, and the range of the Warbling Vireo and decided to split the vireo into two separate species: the Eastern Warbling Vireo (Vireo gilvus) and the Western Warbling Vireo (Vireo swainsonii).

Birders love it when species are split, as they can add another bird to their lists 🎉
