Some days call for a softer version of showing up…

A favorite film grab or photograph can do more than fill a square on the feed. It can hold the viewer captive of a wedding day!

Something like a handwritten vow, a ring that belonged to someone important, flowers chosen for a reason, or the way golden light hits the reception table.

Today is intentionally light.

I actually scheduled this post in advance! My post are mostly prescheduled and planned based on my business needs or the current season. These days we’ve been so focused on getting our home organized, our health, wrap our all outstanding edits, and preparing for our fall weddings over the next few weekends.

The work is still there (in fact I’m wrapping up this beautiful gallery as you’re reading this!!), the clients still matter, and protecting the rest of life matters too.

Consider this a small reminder that being consistent does not have to mean asking more from yourself every single day!

Happy World Photography Day.

The longer I do this, the less I believe the most important photograph is always the most technically perfect one.

Motherhood, loss, travel, and years of documenting other people’s most important days have changed what I notice.

Of course I care about beautiful light, intentional composition, honest color, and portraits that feel worthy of being printed. But I am also watching for the hand reaching across the table, the parent quietly taking everything in, the person laughing just outside the frame, and the way two people look at each other when they think no one else is watching.

That is why our work lives between editorial and documentary.

I will step in when direction makes the photograph stronger. I will step back when the moment is already doing the work.

At The Combs Creative, we photograph weddings throughout Boston, New England, Las Vegas, and destinations worldwide using digital photography, 35mm, 120 film, and Super 8. Every format remembers something a little differently.

The goal is never only a beautiful gallery.

It is creating a way back.

This wedding at Carinwood Estate reminded me why location matters.

Every venue tells a different story.

Some ask for grand editorial portraits. Others invite quiet documentary moments.

Throughout this wedding day, we focused on preserving the atmosphere just as much as the events themselves.

A few things made this location unforgettable…

• The architecture created beautiful leading lines throughout the day.

• The ceremony space offered soft natural light that changed minute by minute.

• The gardens became the perfect place for intimate portraits.

• Indoor spaces gave us elegant editorial moments while protecting everyone from the afternoon heat.

• Every corner felt intentionally designed, giving us endless opportunities without ever repeating ourselves.

Whenever we photograph somewhere new, we spend time walking the property before coverage begins. We pay attention to where light falls throughout the day, how guests naturally move through each space, and which locations feel the most peaceful.

That preparation allows us to create photographs that feel effortless while fully embracing what makes each venue unique.
