I've often have been asked how does someone learn how to take great photos using today's highly complex camera's. On facebook and photography forums everyone is talking gear. It's not the gear that makes the great photos but the person behind the camera that makes it happen.
People often have looked and my photos and admired the images that I have made and usually, the first thing they ask is what camera do I use, or "wow you must have a good camera".
Well, yes I do have a good camera but do you really think that is the secret of great photos? Think again. What makes my photos what they are is from decades of experience, some training and learning from others more knowledgeable than myself.
You wouldn't go to a fine restaurant have a wonderful meal and wish to ask the chef what brand or model pots and pans he uses would you? Or check out his oven/range? Hope not!
Here is the secret. Spend just a little less on the gear and some on training. Take a course, join a photo club, learn a little about what it takes to make great images. For example, try a course from National Geographic. I see that they have a course called " National Geographic Masters of Photography". I'm not pushing this or any other peculiar course as there are many fine ones. Check out Creative live, they also have great courses. The point is spending a little on knowledge and less gear may make the biggest difference in that great picture from a touristy snapshot.
