Repost from

UNLV’s Office of Government and Community Engagement () and School of Public Health () partnered with Three Square Food Bank () to distribute food to 1,000 families in need outside the Thomas & Mack Center.

In Nevada, nearly 500,000 people receive food stamps, according to the Nevada Division of Social Services, with 40% of those being children. As the government shutdown continues, and recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are unable to receive their usual benefits, UNLV stepped in to fill the gaps for Nevadans.

Anyone interested in getting involved with Three Square Food Bank can access them through their website or through its various pantry partners, such as the UNLV Food Pantry (.foodpantry) which helps food insecure students, faculty, and staff.

Ah yes, the joy of trying to recreate a nearly 70 year old image with very different technology and tools in a hugely different environment. I think the only things the same in these images are one building and the mountains. Repost from

In a humorous twist, it’s my photos and it’s my wife. Go Erin!
Repost from

Biology Ph.D. graduate Erin Cassin is one of this semester’s outstanding graduates. A scientist, mentor, mother, classmate, and cancer fighter, Erin overcame challenges and continued to excel, embodying the “Rebels Make it Happen” spirit. Erin’s been a role model for the students she mentors, influencing several to enter graduate school. She also co-developed a course introducing undergrads to microbiology, sharing her love of science with generations of researchers to come. Her doctoral degree makes her a two-time UNLV grad. 🎓 Congratulations, Erin!

Repost from

The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents () has appointed Chris Heavey to serve as interim president of UNLV.

“I’m honored to step into the role of UNLV’s interim president and grateful to Chancellor Charlton and the Board of Regents for entrusting me with the opportunity to lead the university that means so much to me and to all of us,” said President Heavey.

Heavey has been serving as Officer in Charge at UNLV since early March. He has been part of the UNLV community for more than 30 years, holding multiple leadership roles over the course of his long and distinguished career.

“This decision was shaped by the voices of the UNLV community, and we listened,” said Board Chair Amy J. Carvalho. “Dr. Heavey has the experience, the institutional knowledge, and the respect of the campus community needed to lead UNLV during this important time.”

“Dr. Heavey has earned the respect of the campus through years of thoughtful leadership and a genuine commitment to UNLV,” said Chancellor Patricia Charlton. “He understands the complexity of this moment and is well prepared to guide the university with both confidence and vision.”

Repost from

We are so proud to share that UNLV was recognized with its third consecutive R1 designation for research excellence from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The R1 designation – which UNLV first achieved in 2018 and retained in 2021 – is the gold standard for university research metrics and reaffirms the university’s commitment to excellence in research, scholarship, and creative activity.
