Tristyn Butler The travels and experiences of a young man trying to make his way through the amazing world we live in.

I had no plans for this trip. No goals, no structure, no training plan leading up to it, something entirely foreign to me.

I’ve been climbing outside very little, and most of what I have been on has been obscure, with pretty innocuous grades. The irony is that this has perhaps been the most fun I’ve had, and some of the best I’ve ever performed, on a climbing trip.

This past year has forced me to wade into the murky waters of motivation, dedication, and commitment, and the paradoxical relationship between all three and performance.

I’ve always sought certainty in my training plans, my goals, and my strategies. But lately I’ve been wondering if, somewhere in that pursuit, I’ve missed some of the magic in finding the balance between Chris Sharma’s tranquillity and Adam Ondra’s obsession.

Like so many things in life, performance is so far from black and white. And this trip, which I’m only halfway through, has continued to solidify that for me.

First few days of my first trip to Squamish have been fantastic! Managed to get this one on film! It’s super fun to have a fresh zone to explore. I feel like a kid in a candy store walking through the forest here. I have and still have very few expectations for this trip but I have already exceeded my hopes! Can’t wait for the remaining 10 ish days!

Thanks for the footy Jack Nearing

A little late… but alas better late than never and life has been a hair out of hand of late.

I just want to say a sincere thank you to all those that came and participated in, or hung out and spectated the Invitational this year! It’s a true honour to host it and I know that Conall are overwhelmed with gratitude and joy for how well received it has been! Here is to hopefully many more as this incredible community of Berta crushers deserves a good old fashioned board sesh, brews and party!

Y’all are the best!!! Keep crushing my friends!!!

A shot that Bradley George snapped of me wrapping down on of the many undone projects we cleaned and tried in Utah this year.

We have been sitting on 2 years of footage from developing down there. conall_odriscoll has put together a edit that is in its final phases of completion, we will likely do a screening of it after the climbing at the invitational this year!

So if you needed one more reason to come there it is!

Big Choss trail day crew, thank you.

Seriously, it means a lot to me and to WABA that people are willing to take time out of busy weekends to help care for this place and build something better for everyone.

We had an awesome turnout, the weather was perfect, and it was just a genuinely good day. I snapped a few fun pics of the crew and wanted to share them here.

Hoping we can do more trail days like this soon.
