I’ve always been interested in farming and gardening from a very young age. I grew up with a childhood where, as soon as I woke up and looked for my grandparents, I knew where to find them. They were always up before the sun, in the kitchen or in the garden. I can close my eyes and still picture just how happy they looked being surrounded by their plants. It’s a feeling and admiration for nature that I know I share with them… but can’t exactly put into words just yet. Lately, as I’ve been tending to my houseplants (Phoebe the pothos, Frank the fiddle leaf, and Monica the monstera… you either get the theme or you don’t), I’ve realized this ā€œroutineā€ of mine has become a meaningful way to reconnect with my grandparents and nature. It keeps me grounded, present, and centered.

Now, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone—diving into freelance multimedia reporting on sustainable agriculture, food, and community, and exploring how they’re all connected. I’ll be sharing stories and insights from local farmers, small businesses, and organizations working toward a shared goal: healthy, accessible food for everyone, with the well-being of nature and the earth in mind. Excited for you to follow along and learn with me. Stay tuned and follow rootedally for more updates!

I’ll also be doing special features on conversations I’ve had with local businesses doing amazing work in the community, covering AANHPI stories, and a few reflections on motherhood away from the islands, every once in a while.

It was a busy summer indeed. It was nice to imagine a summer filled with sun and popsicles, but even better to live it. That was truly magical. Now, I’m bidding the fun summer days goodbye and welcoming a new season of soupy meals, sweaters and knits, returning to our rhythm with everyday walks, and naps outside while it’s 30 degrees out. I can almost feel the productive energy returning—what a wonderful end to the year it will be.

DIY SERIES: FROG & TOAD PARTY THEME
Episode Three: Leaves and Leis

It was truly crunch time as we approached the week of the party. It took alot longer than I thought it would to paint the leaves, but it got done and thats all that matters, truly. šŸ˜‚

Posting has taken a bit of a backseat, over here. Between enjoying the summer with my soon to be two year old and starting my journey as an independent journalist, i’ve found it more important than ever to balance intentional media consumption. However, i’ve been painting, gardening, thrifting and doing all the wonderful things i enjoy to pour back into myself after a season of burnout. Will share more soon, take care till then

another throwback with the S family since baby S is expected to arrive this month! it was pure nostalgia seeing newborn baby clothes, boots and all the things from the newborn bubble. pregnancy and expecting is such a life changing journey. its such a great opportunity to document what it really looked like, so you can sit and flip through it for nostalgia as time passes by. 🩵
