Had the opportunity from the City of Lebanon, Missouri to document the 3rd and 4th of July festivities!! It was a really great time, Dawson Hollow crushed it as always and everyone loved the firework show at the airport on the 4th as well!

Big thanks to the city for doing an amazing job with these events and making a meaningful effort to put on events in our community for people to come to celebrate together!

Here's just a few of my favorite shots 👇

If you've been wondering whether I fell off the face of the earth... not quite, but it's definitely felt like it. I think we have found out the true meaning of the saying "when it rains it pours".

The last couple of weeks have been a little chaotic around our house. The recent big hailstorm decided our family car had lived a good enough life and totaled it out, we worked through a difficult situation (putting it extremely lightly) with our daughter that took a big emotional and physical toll on us, and then, just to keep things interesting, my fiancée managed to find out what pavement at 20 mph feels like on an electric scooter (0/10, would not recommend), complete with an ER visit and enough road rash to last a lifetime.

Needless to say, social media and work have taken a back seat while I focused on the people who matter most. It also means I'm a couple weeks behind on editing compared to where I hoped I'd be. Not making excuses, just letting everyone know why things have been a little quieter than normal or why you may not have gotten a message back from me if you've messaged me personally.

Thankfully, things seem to be settling down, everyone's on the mend, and I'm back in the office working my way through everything. I've got a TON of projects I'm excited to finish and share, so you'll be seeing a lot more from me again going forward!

Thanks to everyone who's been patient and understanding, it seriously means the world to me. Life has a funny way of changing your priorities for a little while, and I'm thankful I had the flexibility to put my family first when they needed me!!

Color grading can define your video style, but it’s more than that. It conveys the footage’s feeling, which is why I prefer a natural, slightly stylized approach. I want everything to flow seamlessly, not like a collection of random clips with a preset.

However, you must shoot correctly to color grade effectively. It’s challenging to improve a bad image with color grading, but it’s easy to enhance a good image with knowledge.

At the Synergy event, I shot in various lighting conditions and achieved cohesive results, from harsh sunlight to a beautiful sunset and an after-dark cage with different color temperature lights.

To achieve intentional results, plan and shoot intentionally, not rely on your camera or presets to do the work for you. Like most skills, it’s built on fundamentals. Know how to expose your image, adjust white balance, choose the right location and shot composition, and then tie it all together with color grading.

I’ve been doing this daily for over 10 years and still learn constantly. There’s no easy shortcut to greatness in any craft, and this one is no exception. While there’s nothing wrong with content creators who prioritize content over perfect color or movie-like visuals, that’s not my approach. For me, the fun lies in the craft, and constantly learning and leveling up skills keeps it interesting!

Here are a few raw footage clips with added color grading to illustrate the difference. No two clips have the same settings or grade, but they all work cohesively.

After spending the last few months filming MMA, this weekend was my first time filming a boxing event. At first glance, combat sports are combat sports, but from behind the camera, they're very different.

In MMA, I'm constantly watching for everything. Striking, takedowns, submissions, scrambles against the cage, elbows, kicks. The action can move from one side of the cage to the other in seconds.

Boxing felt different.

Every exchange mattered, every movement felt deliberate. Instead of watching for ten different possibilities, I found myself focused on footwork, angles, timing, and the small openings fighters create before they throw.

Then there was the challenge of the ring itself...

I've gotten used to shooting directly against a cage where it almost disappears from the frame. Boxing ropes are a different story. Every angle becomes a puzzle to solve, trying to frame the action while working through ropes, corners, officials, and constantly shifting positions.

Different sport, different challenges.
Same thing that keeps pulling me into it, the people, stories, and problem solving that comes with trying to make something great out of it!

Had someone comment that I was just as locked in as the fighters in the ring, and I take that as a huge compliment!! We are both focused, determined and doing what we love to do!

This weekend was my first time filming a boxing event! What stood out to me wasn't just the action in the ring, it was everything surrounding it. The focus before a fight, conversations between rounds, emotions after the final bell. The coaches investing in their athletes and their families and community that showed up to support it all.

Lately I've found myself drawn more and more to projects that allow me to document people pursuing something difficult. Whether that's athletes, fighters, business owners, or creatives, there's always a bigger story beneath the surface. Grateful to The Way of the Warrior for trusting me to help tell a small part of theirs!!

These are just a few still frames I pulled from the video clips, MUCH more to come!

Had the opportunity to capture photo and video for the amazing Dakota Hendrix and her dancers when they put on their showcase this weekend! It's really awesome to be able to step into other people's worlds for a bit and be able to hopefully make somethings with them that they'll look back on for years and years to come!!

Here's a snapshot from every performance of the night. It's going to take just a bit to get through all of the photos (I may or may not have taken just under 2000 images 🫣) but here's something to look at in the meantime for the parents and dancers!

They did an incredible job and you could tell the amount of time and effort they had all put in to prepare was insane!! Feel free to share and/or tag with anyone who is involved, full album coming soon!
