Being here has brought back so many memories already. Not the kind that you casually acknowledge. These are the kind you can viscerally feel. The kind that you smell so intensely that you can taste it. Ghosts of those you once knew are manifesting as clear as it was yesterday. Walking these halls isn't done in the now, rather almost purely with muscle memory. I don't feel like I am 19 years old again. I am reliving this again, but as a much older and wiser man. This place has me walking taller, more confident and a bit more humbled if for just a little while. I'll take it... gladly.

In the world of aviation, a frequent question that comes up is, "What is your favorite plane from WWII?" For me, it's this beautiful aircraft; the Northrop P-61 "Black Widow." From the first time I laid eyes on her as a kid to now, she evokes strong feelings of quiet power and awe. To me, she comes from an era where design was coupled with graceful lines and curves that we just don't see any more. Almost like the "art deco" period of aeronautical engineering. She was my favorite model to build growing up (even though my model building skills greatly were lacking). But for many years, she was an empty checkbox on the list of planes I wanted to see in person. That is until our recent trip to the National Museum of the Air Force.
