3 Ways to Increase Your Faith When You Want to Give Up

I remember weeping this time last summer when God dropped a promise in my heart. He used scripture, people and random circumstances to speak the promise, then would send reminders for weeks through scripture, people and random circumstances yet again.

A year later... the promise hasn't been fulfilled. If I'm honest... I've been questioning if I even heard Him right.

It's tough.

It's lonely.

It's embarrassing... because I told others about the miracle God was going to perform in my life.

A couple weeks ago, I received what you might call a "down payment" on the promise. A step in the right direction, perhaps?

Rather than be filled with faith that his promise will come to pass, I've been feeling waves of disappointment that I'm still in waiting...

But this is the moment that I choose to lean in. He's always been faithful... why would He change course now? So I've decided that I will trust His character rather than my circumstances. In doing so, I'll hold on to His promise... I know His voice. I heard Him right. So in this season of waiting, I'll find scriptures that will increase my faith and silence the attacks of doubt.

God will get the glory... I will have a testimony. I will wait on Him.

Today, on Bereaved Mother's Day we remember our babies in heaven.

It's the club that none of us chose, but we will run this race with our heads held high knowing the pain of our loss has purpose.

Our purpose as bereaved mothers is to authentically pursue the Cross in our weakness. It's to know that our strength to endure is only by His grace. It's also to not allow our losses to define us, but to refine us.

In doing so, we become "like trees planted by the riverside" with roots that grow deep and leaves that provide shade and rest for the weary souls of those that walk this path after us.

But today... today, let peace guard your heart and mind. Today, just be. Today, feel anything you need to feel.

Tomorrow, may you find new resolve to keep healing and to keep pursuing purpose. But, not today.

Psalm 119:28 says,
“My life’s strength melts away with grief and sadness; come strengthen me and encourage me with your words."

If we let God into the depths of our sorrow, we will make room for Him to encourage us through His word. Many times this encouragement comes directly from scripture, but oftentimes in comes in moments of stillness.

Can you take a moment to be still today?

I love the opening lyrics to "Out of Hiding" by Steffany Gretzinger:

"Come out of hiding
You're safe here with me
There's no need to cover
What I already see

You've got your reasons
But I hold your peace
You've been on lockdown
And I hold the key

'Cause I loved you before you knew it was love
And I saw it all, still I chose the cross
And you were the one that I was thinking of
When I rose from the grave"

---
It's an invitation to allow our Heavenly Father to love us as only He can. If you have a moment today, take time to truly listen the the lyrics. I've wept many times doing so.

He's met me in the hiding place, but I found him in the light.
