Another successful Pickers Market in downtown Litchfield. After stopping and snagging a coffee at a local coffee shop, figured I'd snap a few photos of the event. These pictures were taken around 8AM and there were already hundreds of people visiting downtown. Around 9AM, the visitors nearly doubled. Great work Litchfield!

Severe weather is expected again this afternoon into this evening. The greatest potential for severe weather will exist in NE MO and WC IL. Storms will gradually weaken with southeastern extent.

Looking for local nerds like me interested in radios/LoRA communications to start an off-grid regional comms system starting in Litchfield.

I’m starting a Meshtastic communication network here in Litchfield. It’s a low-power, long-range messaging system that works without cell service or internet—phones connect to small radio devices via Bluetooth. Our area currently has zero nodes other than interstate travelers near by.

It’s great for:
✔️ Emergency and outage situations
✔️ Outdoor and weather enthusiasts
✔️ Tech and radio hobbyists
✔️ Community coordination
✔️ Anyone interested in backup communication
✔️ Anyone interested in just seeing what nodes they can connect to!

Unlike HAM radio, no license is required to use Meshtastic devices.

Right now, we don’t have any active local nodes yet, but I have 3 devices on order and will be bringing the network online soon.

The more people who participate, the stronger the network becomes. Each device helps extend coverage for everyone. The goal is to be able to connect to the nodes in the Metro-East & the large group in Effingham county.

If you’re interested in learning more, setting one up, or joining in, I started another group called “Montgomery Macoupin Meshtastic LoRA”.

Litchfield! Watch the skys today! The mass exodus of planes heading home from EAA Oshkosh has begun. Here shortly you’ll see two World War II planes. Currently a SNJ-5 Texan and a P-51 Mustang that are set to fly over somewhere between Litchfield & Hillsboro.
