The antlers can grow up to an inch per day during this time.

The white-tailed deer antler cycle is an annual process controlled by daylight and testosterone. It features three main stages: rapid growth in spring/summer, hardening and velvet shedding in early fall, and finally, natural shedding in late winter after the breeding season.

May: Antlers begin to calcify into bone and grow rapidly, covered in a soft, blood-rich skin called velvet. During this period, bucks consume high-protein spring vegetation to fuel this rapid bone growth.
