Love this portrait we created, I asked Tony if he would mind standing on this sliver of light as the sun was setting. He just had a big scene, good timing.
This is considered a “pull aside”.

Another reason why I love creating portraits for the property dept.
I was given an assignment to create a 1940’s portrait. I studied and created it on location, having to duvetyn the windows.
I shot on film and digitally. It was great fun!

We only had less than a minute to shoot this, which is often the case, you generally get it between set ups, if at all possible, or at the end of a scene.

One of the reasons I love shooting for the prop department. This was up and comer David Cornsweet, I knew he’d be going places!
Taking photos for the property department means pull asides, shooting fast, off the cuff, many times, unplanned.
Usages are within the TV show or film. It’s great when you get one on one time with actors as well, often just to be able to create the relationship.

Also, yes the industry is still very slow. I am continuing to teach this class because there are students interested in pursuing this path. I will continue to encourage other art forms, photography genres, and side jobs in addition. I will speak at length about the state of our industry as well.

Doing some visual reminiscing. It’s nice to have time to reflect on a career.
As a set photographer you spend many hours on set. Often I shot things out of frustration, boredom, curiosity, interest, fun, sometimes just to make sense of the surreal surroundings I often found myself in.

Enjoy this weird mix.

Thank you for the 4.0 CA Film Tax credit. It’s a start, I know there is more work to do!
There is a bit of an uptick in Productions in CA as a whole and in LA.
